I use gimp which is totally free and similar to photoshop.
Here's what to do. Made easy - just for you!
You going to take a snapshot of your vid - any pic will do. Now you have the right dimensions for the thumbnail
Open the pic with photoshop - gimp. Now, change the image into what you want.
I suggest you have a real close up of the face or thing which is the subject of the vid.
Put that thing on one side.
Go on Google and find a png image of white banner. Import to photoshop - gimp.
You will resize to fit your title - make your title no more than 3 words if possible.
Words will be on top of each other in different colors with borders.
Leave about 20% of bottom empty as the time-scroll bar of youtube will hide part of it.
This thing will stick out and you'll have lots more views.
