I have a site built on Wordpress which is a bit of a mess. Programmer coded it sloppy and didn't knew much about SEO. I need to find a guy that has specific skills in Wordpress SEO who can help me optimize the site. Problem is that these guys are hard to find. Would really appreciate if one of you can recommend me a true expert!

It's not surprising to me that your web designer was not an Seo Expert - as they are different things - and they attract different types of people.
I hate design I suck at it - but I'm quite good and sitting down checking things out and figuring out a strategy.
Hire a Freelancer Section would be best to look for someone to fix up your Site - and then you can move on from there.

I just want to add that make sure your test your website speed as many times bad coding increase page load times and your best on page seo would not be good enough.
So find someone who can code the website really well then find someone who can optimize it for you.
