Need Help Figuring Out Shipping for Product Website

Have a website that is selling lightbulbs but am struggling to figure out the best logic in how to price the shipping for this as there are over 5,000 products, each product has a different dimension, and weight.

Many people will mix and match their orders so what do I do in those cases etc... ?

All shipping is being done via fedex.

I would try to figure out what your average shipping cost is going to be per product and offer free shipping on all light bulbs. The number one reason for abandoned shopping carts is due to shipping costs.

In most cases, you can categorize items by small, small-medium, medium, medium-large, large, and oversized (extra large) and then take 25 of each category and find the average shipping cost and add 5%. Depending on how you account your expenses, you can figure out which items cost more than you charged for, and manually adjust the price of shipping so you don't lose money in the future.

Do you think that is best for a site with this many products here is just one category and you can see all of the bulbs that are listed there.
I am not opposed to your method if you think that will be best suited.
 
I would get the average cost of shipping for each of the categories already listed. LED, HID, Flourescent Tubes, Halogen, Incascent, and CFL.
