So I run a market for virtual online gaming currency (Not getting into specifics on the game). I'm curious as to if I'd be in a better position to increase traffic to my Market Site by creating a subdomain like cheats.xxxxxxx.com and have game guides listed on there, or would I be in a better position to get an entire new website dedicated to the guides I'm about to make, and refer potential customers to my market site by ads.

Can anyone reference optimization problems with Subdomains? I have read some article/blogs on Google but I'd like the opinions of the users on here.

Just anything that could be of usefulness please elaborate :)

Can someone get back to me who has a clear understanding of this stuff? Possibly PM me and add me on skype if that's easier?

Still looking for advice.

I am running 1 main website and 1 subdomain but I am building another new website and rank it because it will build backlinks much better than subdomains

Go to Youtube and search for a video called, 'Should I structure my site with subdomains or subdirectories?' with Matt Cutts.

While the video is several years old, he answers some questions about how Google treats subdomains.

According to Matt Cutts, Google seems to recognize when your subdomain is off your main site, so both sites are attributed to you, rather than the subdomain counting as a different or new site.

In the video, he indicates that you should do whatever is best for your CMS solution, rather than basing it on a ranking factor, since much of the benefit of having something as subdomain for SEO purposes have been removed.

So that would be my suggestion. Just do what works best for you. Place your how to articles on the subdomain of your main domain/site or a folder if that works better for you. Neither one will be better or worse for SEO and ranking.
