So, I have this business idea that really desperately needs a relatively small (under $5k) investment to get started, and has the potential to provide wild returns (lifetime passive income equal to that of a full-time job) inside of 6 months. I even have a few clients lined up, practically pre-sold on the product my business plans to provide. I have the plans 100% drawn up, and as soon as the money comes in, I can kick everything off. I'm happy to have all the money go straight from investor to purchase, without having to pass through my hands.

But despite all of this, I have not been able to convince anyone to invest in this plan. I have a kinda small rep, and only 3 iTraders (no negative scores though), so I can kinda see how people would be wary, but is that enough to dissuade everyone from doing business with me? Anyone have any advice to give me on how to convince potential investors to put their money into this business?

Think things through. What would you want to see or know before you coughed up $5k to a total stranger via the internet? It needs to be pretty convincing.

I agree, and I think I've given someone all the information I'd need. I'm not even asking $5k. I could get started with as little as $200, it's just that things would pick up a lot quicker if I had a bigger investment, and because people like to dream about huge passive incomes, I start by asking for higher investments. The thing about this investment is that the returns are massive because it is a continual income stream. Obviously, a smaller investment is going to take longer to build into a serious revenue stream, but it will get there.

Well, for me (and my family) it is. Otherwise, I would lol.

That is not a lot of money. Why not save up for it or borrow it from someone? No reason to give an investor such a huge chunk of the revenue over such a small investment. It really is just silly.

If you really believe that much in your idea then you need to make it happen. When I started my first online venture I had done it with money I saved from working my ass off at a shit 9-5 job. Do it on your own. Not only will it be more gratifying but you will end up making a ton more for yourself.

Well I can't exactly borrow from anyone I know, I don't have the kind of friends that hand out 5k loans like candy lol. As for saving it up myself, I would, but I don't want someone else (possibly with more funding at their disposal) to get to this idea before me.

Why not sell 100 $50 shares? Or the magic $197 figure. As an eBook or something.

Don't look for investors on a forum... check out prosper.com or something.

would be hard to convince anyone this way, $200 or $5000, I mean really if you dont have that amount to invest that simply means you are a complete newbie to the business, nothing personal. I dont know your situation but someone who doesnt even have $200 to start a business is immediately cut off in my book.

Exactly my thoughts. 4 years ago I was working on a website and need some investment. I ended up getting a loan of about 10k from the bank which is what I needed. I didn't have a good credit so paid a pretty high interest on it. I belived in my idea and 6 months later paid the loan back when I made the money.

Have a solid business plan laid out. Convince yourself to take the risk to get a loan. If you cant convince yourself to risk your credit then you cant convince anyone else. 5k is not much money. If you have a stable job or even a half decent credit, you shouldn't have any problems getting $5k from a bank. Heck, if you think you can make a full-time income from it so quickly, I wouldn't even mind getting a loan at 30% interest.

I think I'd rather deal with another individual that I can pay back in my own time if the business fails, rather than deal with a bank and lose $5k in collateral until I pay them back. Yes, I'm 99.9999% sure this plan will succeed, but I don't wanna have a bank after me if that 0.0001 happens.

So you want to reap the rewards, but not take the risks?

WTF. and the reason you want somebody online is because you can just take off and stiff him off in case shit hits the fan.

    What a crooked sure-fail investment.

Not at all the case. First off, I'm paying out a significant amount of money to my investor, so I am by no means trying to reap all the rewards for myself. Secondly, I said that I would pay back the investor in my own time. I guarantee any investment made with me will not be lost, and I tell people that. Clade, we have never done business together, so I see no reason for you to have any input regarding my ethics. If you think I'm such a crook, open a Shit List thread and have me banned; but please refrain from dragging my name through the mud in my own thread where I'm simply asking the people of BHW for advice.

why not lay out the expected returns for the different investment amounts

you have said it could start with $200 so what would be the time and return on that

then lay out what the bigger amounts would mean to the investor

It sounds like you are all over the place.
First you can make it work with 5k and then
    $200 to start.

You have clients lined up, can't you charge them more and get going.

If you are trying to convince people, you need to stick to one amount
    of money.
