Need Help! Bitly link going to bridge page!

Hello

So I have a URL and then used bit ly to shorten the link.
However when I click on the bitly link it goes to a different spammy website (kind of a spammy advertorial bridge page!)
Does that mean that the link is anyhow hacked in between?
This has happened multiple times now.

maybe it is getting redirected. Although there are sites like link shortening ones who do this kind of things.

Yes I checked the link URL and there is a redicrect token.
redir_token=Buh-RSb9p_vB14mu7ZBabwTs3Kp8MTU4NDM0NDQ2OEAxNTg0MjU4MDY4

Is this common with link shortening sites?

Yeah, It is common. The one I use on my blog does have a token attached.

Well what I meant was... Is this kind of thing common where the bit ly redirects to an entirely different page coincidentally in the same niche as well?

maybe its some error on Bitly's part while pointing the shortened URL. They pointed yours to someone else's target link

Well I am very much sure its not an error because :

1. The bridge page is clearly an affiliate page.
2. This has happened more than once across different shortened URLs.
3. The fact that the link goes to a page in the same niche means there must have been some kind of hacking done in between.

If that is the case, then the guy who did it is making some crazy CPA $$$.

Yes but thinking how he did it. i am very sure it was kind of hacking.

This is probably being done by an admin of the link shortening website. Some scammy ones check your page and assign it a niche so when someone buys advertising from them they just redirect your traffic to his website.

I used bitly to shorten the link.

Can you check short url with https://www.expandurl.net to see how many redirects are there?

It could be bitly or it could be on your site too..

Thanks for this tool. I checked and its showing only 1 redirect (my target URL) Didnt show anything wrong with the link.

Use a different shortener. There's no way your link gets replaced to a different page.

It has to be a redirect. I would try to do the process again and see if that still happens. Hope you solve it!

What happened was this:

My shortened bit.ly link going to >>>>>> unknown affiliate page in the same niche. It doesnt redirect any further.

Now when I click on the same shortened link 3-4 times, it goes to my page where its actually supposed to go.

Currently I have got rid of the shortened link altogether. But not sure what happened and how.

Bitly is case sensitive. If you are typing it and checking makesure all the cases are exactly the same.

If the problem still persists i would recommend using Tinyurl for shortening the link
