Need Expert Advice: Domain or Site Flipping? Which One is Better?

I need an an expert advice. I have been in the domains flipping business. I buy old domains and sell those for a good margin. These are just old domains (short and pronounceable). I normally don't care about DA/PA or CF/TF. However, one of my friends who is an internet marketer told me that I should put websites on the domains that I buy and drive some traffic. This way the domains/sites will sell on better margins. Is that right? any suggestions please

yes your friend is right but it requires a couple hours of time and effort to grow your site, you could even find a way to outsource this so someone can create a nice looking blog / store so it can be further built up apon when a buyer buys but it does limit your audience as someone interested in the domain may shy away as they figure out they need to buy the store too, thus it could take longer to sell, which is a problem in the domain industry :)
 
Oh yea i would for sure add a website to the domain, a little bit of work there could make you a lot more money. You can buy turnkey websites in the marketplace too, they could probably just throw it on your domain and you could maybe even double the money you invest in the website itself.
 
For sure, wayback and others (including services here) are able to give you a cached history of the site.

If you keep to the same structure and content, the original links may stay in place. If they don't simply ask the previous webmaster to include again.

Only worth doing if the site has good metrics/ links. And if you have the time/ or outsource - well worth it. You can sell the domain as well too - buyers may just want it for their own purposes.

Normally the domains are undeveloped and the wayback only shows the domain sales page for older domains too. Do you still suggest to put up a new website on such domains?

Turnkey websites are a good idea. What's the best marketplace to buy those? I have been looking at Flippa for this, but Flippa has become a crap over the time.

Some must have had content. Or maybe not, but it's worth checking. Look at the backlinks to each url a whole to see - historical ones, if they exist. Even use some search operators.

But if there isn't any, don't build - waste of time.

Make your own marketplace where you sell these sites.

Oh i mean the marketplace here in BHW has people that make complete websites with content and everything, you just give them the URL (or they provide one) and put it all together for really cheap. I've only browsed though so i don't know which ones are the best.

For actually selling the sites once you are done, then yes flippa is an option, there still are good legit deals there, or so i've heard, and for sure some legit buyers. BHW here also has a marketplace for domains and websites that might be an option.
 
My experience has been to just flip the domains, at most have a logo.

Websites generally don't do much for my specific portfolio, buyers tend to develop their own site and prefer no baggage from any short term traffic building techniques.

I can develop a platform. However, making it popular requires efforts in SEO, SMM & other areas. What do you suggest?

Yes domains with logos is a good idea. Does that only work for brandable domain names? or you do it for every kind of domains?
 
Site flipping by far although that takes more work. But if you can setup a site and proof it makes a little money people will buy. Domain names get sit for yearsssssss and only a few will get lucky to sell that high ticket domain name.
 
Yeah that makes sense. Do you suggest the websites are built with unique content? or scraped content can do as well?
I am a developer myself, so not afraid of the efforts for developing a website. However, need to worry about content etc for that is a cost oriented activity.

Usually brandable domains.

Site flipping will of course generate the most but that's the equivelant of saying, build a business on top of the domain.

Of course a business (or site with traffic with potential to convert in to business) is worth more than a dormant domain.

If you can add value to something, it's a no brainer.
 
Thanks everyone for the input. So far it looks site flipping is bigger than domain flipping merely. However, it requires hard work.
