I've looked about for a Godaddy coupon, but can't find one for as cheap as you wanted (except the US/Canada one you've already mentioned).

You can however grab one from namecheap for 98c (which imo are a better registrar anyway): http://www.namecheap.com/promos/exclusive-pr0m0-0-98-domain-kdfyk.aspx

If you'd like to signup to HG under my affiliate link, I would appreciate it :)

Namecheap's whoisguard is provided free with your first year of a domain, after that you have to pay for it, but the prices is pretty low and you can get packs for multiple domains.

I use namecheap for all my domains.

From the offer page I linked you:

Thanks for the help scrapefox. i cant reply becuase i havent got enough posts yet. any reason why godaddy charge so much more for it? feel like ive wasted a lot of cash on godaddy if it does the same thing?

will i be able to buy a domain from namecheap then hosting from hostgator? i havent done anything like this before so have no idea. ive done enough reading now and want to learn by trying and learning from my mistakes

I guess Godaddy charge that amount because they can get away with it, nothing more, nothing less.

To answer your question, yes you can easily get a domain from Namecheap and use hosting from HostGator. You'll get your nameservers in an email from hostgator when you signup and then you need to enter them in your namecheap control panel.

    Here's a guide they've made:

Glad you got such a good deal! The namecheap link wasn't actually an affiliate link, but nvm :)

If you do decide to go with hostgator, that's great, but it's up to you of course :)
