Need Computer Help!

im justing installing aim and i can walk you threw the installation if you like

What I would do is visit that website, download the drivers you need, then burn them on a disk or save the downloaded files on a flash drive. You may not be able to access the internet after the fresh install, so this will prevent that from stopping your progress.

So...

Download files > Burn or Save to disk > Reinstall Windows (Insert CD and Restart) > Install Drivers.

All should be fine after that - A nice and, hopefully, quick computer!
 
why woudnt you be able to get internet always works perfectly for me are you on cable or wireless also

Ok i have the Windows CD and the Drivers And Utilities CD.

I just inserted the cd and restarted windows but nothing happens.

So i went to "My Computer" right clicked on Drive C and clicked on Format..and i got this window..

You cannot format this volume.
It contains the version of windows that you are using. Formatting this volume could cause your computer to stop working. Formatting Disks and Drives FAQ
 
Put in the CD and try to just Double Click the icon in My Computer. Or right click and run.

I did that but couldn't find anything that says format, just basically install windows vista. And it was Copying files instead of deleting... :confused:

I've never installed Vista and I'm on a MAC so I can't really attempt right now; however, when I installed Windows XP it ran through a few processes itself and then asked me what I wanted to do. Maybe let it run a bit and see what happens?

It asked me whether to Install, Erase, or Fix. I chose to erase the partition I currently had and then after that I chose Install on the new blank partition.

Maybe try talking to mrarmy on AIM, he seems eager to help, lol.

Im letting it run now so i will keep you guys updated. Thanks for the help
 
Ok so i reinstalled it, it looks fine and everything but i noticed i only have like 30GB left when before i did this i had around 90GB left..i found a folder thats named Windows.old but i dont know if i should delete it or not... any advice on this guys?

You didn't delete the old files... it seems you just created a new partition and created an exact replica of everything you had before, minus a few programs you added. Or you created a small partition and installed Windows there instead of using the entire drive.

You need to clean the drive first... like I recommended in my very first post.
 
what i did was, used the Disk Clean Up and it deleted everything from the previous install. So it freed up about 40 gigs. :) im guessing that should work right
 
Somewhere on your hard drive, you'll have a restore partition that will restore everything back to how it was when you got it from Dell. This is a pretty standard thing with most PC's and Laptops with Vista, I've done a few of these. You don't need to fuck about with new driver files.
It takes about 20-30 minutes, you'll have no problems with lumps of hard drive missing or anything, it'll be just like new.
Do you have a c: and d: partition on your HD?
 
Well you can definitely delete windows old - right click and see how big the file is - it might be why you have so little space.

yeah C: and D:

C: 90.8 GB free out of 138 GB (This is AFTER deleting "everything")
D: 5.28 GB free out of 9.99 GB

Edit: I think i need more RAM...i only have like 900 MB.. how do i go about this problem?
