Need advice on chosing domain name

in my opinion i would go for the highdefenitiontv just because the abbreviations could take the wrong way at google. with "hideftv" the keyword could be "hide ftv".

And for people that doesn't speak english as first language, they possibly wont know the abbreviations used, and try to search for "HD TV" only.

I personally don't see anyone typing in "high definition televisions" in G.

Searches: high def tv 14,800, high definition televisions 8,100

Both have a ton of competition and first page is stuffed with authority sites.

Any smaller sub niche you can break into with this?

yes i dont see people typing high definition televisions into google either but if its just for domain purposes then it should make a difference when you SEO to a the search term you choose.

im not actually making a site about highdef tvs, i just used that as an example :) say there was 10,000 searches a month for " high-def tv", and my main keyword was the full term "high definition television" could my site rank for that term?
thanks

Yes you could still rank for it. It depends how you do your linkbuilding and the rest of the puzzle :).

That's a good question tommy. Google does use a thesaurus-like technology so it can understand abbreviations. It recognises that HDTV is high definition tv, and when you search hi def tv it recognises that as high definition television, see this example:
Code:
google.co.nz/#hl=en&gl=us&q=hi+def+tv&aq=f&aqi=g-e2g8&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=b12d6006b8f7d97c

So the abbreviation (hideftv or even highdeftv) will be recognised as the same keyword as high definition television by google. So I would go with the abbreviation because it is shorter and a little easier to brand.
