Need Advice on Choosing SSD

Hi,

I need to replace my (soon to fail) HDD, but I don't know if my computer's motherboard works with the new generation connections (M2, NVME, and all that new crap that exists today and which I have no idea what it means).

The MoBo is Gigabyte H97M-D3H (very old, I know...) and while I am aware of what's on it, I still don't know if SSDs can actually be mounted on it and boot from.

I need to buy a 120 Gb SSD to boot Windows 7 from, but I don't know if I should choose SATA 3 or PCIe interface cause I don't understand technology, especially the new terms. Also, do I need any adapter to be able to use SSD? I did some googling and I read somewhere (on Quora, I believe) that in order to use SSD in the PCIe slot of this motherboard I have to use an adapter. What kind of adapter and where to connect it I have no idea, so please don't ask! All I know is that I read about this info somewhere and that I thought it was important. Also, is it better, performance-wise, to use SATA or PCIe?

Can someone who knows this stuff pleae help? I think my HDD will fail soon and I need to buy a new disk ASAP with all of the BF / CM deals running these days.

SSD SATA must work perfectly. SATA is SATA.

That's what I thought, too and which is what I will do unless there is a better option, which makes me ask this: is PCIe slot better than SATA cable? I mean, will the SSD work faster if I put it in PCIe x4 slot?

PCIe is not better. It's faster and more expensive. SATA is a standard that's quite enough for average user and work both on old and new computers. I'd choose SSD sata with increased volume than PCIe. You're free to use it with almsot any old or new PC or notebook.

SSD SATA is the one that you should go with,
it's more compatible than PCIe

Yes definatly SSD sata drive is what you want, 1TB about $100 go for it and prepare for great drive speeds!
