<NEED> Advice from BHW members

I consider BHW part of my online community ever since joined here about a year ago.
I started out on a serious SEO journey 3 months ago from all the knowledge I gathered here from BHW and I have been pretty successful so far, but 2 weeks ago, I faced a major roadblock.
My stupid Internet connection started to become extremely unstable. I disconnect every 5 minutes and can only surf pages before I disconnect again. I can't blast, harvest, bookmark, nothing!
I don't live in a first world country, and I've been trying hard to get my ISP to fix it, but so far, no luck.
What would you do if you were me? Stressed as ever knowing that I can do so much more if it weren't for this.

If it isnt the only ISP that you have in your area, I would sure switch the connection to its best competitor.

Well, My net is just 256kpbs, on 30/60 cap. But thats the best plan I can get, and my parents want me to concentrate on studies than getting a pricy net connection. (Speedy ofcourse).
 
I'm on 4 Mbps and my ISP basically monopolizes the whole country :(
 
Maybe it's your phone line causing problems? I'm an ex telephone engineer in the UK. We had similar problems and I knew it was the phone line causing the problem. Even if the telephone line company test the line and it appears to be ok, it might not be.

Our broadband kept dropping out like yours all the time. I noticed during some phone calls the line was just a little crackly. That was the fault. It took 3 engineer visits before I got it sorted out.

In the UK, phone lines use 2 copper wires, an A 'leg' and a B 'leg'. The B leg carries voltage down it, if the wires get water in they will corrode over time, especially the 'B' leg with voltage. They can break inside the insulation around the wire. This causes noise on the line and intermittent broadband connection. Over time the wire will break completely and will be dead. When this happens it's easy to locate. But until it does, it can be difficult to find. If the wires are broken but still touching within the insulation it's difficult to locate where the break is. But you get an intermittent noisy line, calls that are feint and broadband connection problems.

Yup, they use copper wires in my country too and I have no idea how to get this fixed now. I do indeEd have slight crackling sounds, but it does happen intermittently, otherwise it's pretty clear.
 
You could get a satelite internet.
Or switch to a VPS, so the server is blasting while you are disconnected.
 
...I can't blast, harvest, bookmark...

I assume you have apps/soft for these tasks.
Since they keep on going once started I would at least get a VPS for this.

I doubt it is anything to do with the isp. If the line is noisy the fault is in the local copper phone network. Changing isp won't make a difference. Whoever is in charge of the phone lines is responsible.

Furykyle says it is noisy sometimes. That will be water in a cable joint somewhere in the copper network. As a phone call takes place, voltage and sound waves carry down the copper wire, if there's a slight break in the wire, it vibrates causing the noise. Corrosion on the wires as well as earth contact will also cause noise.

Not knowing where he's from and the state of the phone network it might be nothing to do with this! could be just a faulty router and the phone line is perfect!
 
If your internet is disconnecting every 5 minutes, it could be caused by a lot of different issues. You should definitely try to do everything you can from your side before you rule it out of your control.

If you search "internet disconnects every few minutes" it is definitely not a problem limited to 3rd world countries.

Check the following:
1. Update drivers for your network adapter
2. Try internet with a ethernet cable instead of wifi
3. Update router drivers
4. Change router channel
5. Delete route 0.0.0.0.0

I think that covers most of the things you can do on your end. If none of those work, buying a VPS may be your only solution.
 
I'm not in a 3rd world country, so I guess they should be responsible enough to help me solve my problem here. The thing is, there are so many copper wires relayed to my area, how am I or the people in charge know which one is faulty? It only happens intermittently, and so he said it's difficult for him to pinpoint the problem. I would get some wireless broadband 3g thing, but I think AMR, SB and BMD will eat the quota up like pancakes and I'll be left with no more bandwidth to watch amazing movies like Breaking Bad :( Pretty bad dilemma now.
I'm just hoping and praying he finds the faulty wire soon. Engineer changed my router but the problem still persisted (as I suspected). I hope it's not some internal wiring thing, or my parents won't get it fixed since it's gonna cost a bomb.
What she doesn't know is SEO is going to earn me more than a bomb if they get it fixed :(

I'd find your fault within an hour :D He should stick a tone onto your two wires at your house which will send a beep down just your 2 wires. You can go into a joint full of 1000's of wires and will be able to pick out your two just by listening with an amplifier. When he finds the 2 wires, he should sShort them out with a pair of cutters, if the sound stops there's no break between that point and your house. If it keeps beeping there's one wire broken somewhere in between. Just trial and error.

Anyone who says it can't be found is lazy and can't be bothered.

And yes, if you have lots of internal wiring that could also cause a lot of problems.

Have you done any recent changes with the power cables? If they are wrapped around your ethernet cable, that could cause some problems. Make sure there is no power cables wrapped around your ethernet cable, check your DSL rates, and test again. I mean, that only applies if this is a problem in your end, if your friends who have the same connection are experiencing same problems, then its probably a problem on your ISP's end.
