Need advice for internal linking

Hey guys I'm new to SEO and i was reading on net people use silo structure to design their websites and I want to know is there any better structure?Also I plan to build webpage in diet niche to learn SEO on it and to use it for my long-term results since I know a lot about dieting and bodybuilding in general and I want to know would it be the best to rank homepage or product pages (I dont need to make money right now I plan to make money with it in 2 years or so).Thanks for answer!
