Need Advice about .Us Domain

Hi all,

I live in the Uk and I bought a .US domain - before making the purchase however I was informed by Godaddy that only US citizens or those with domicile within the US can purchase .US domains, and gave several options for this - I selected that I was a US citizen (which I am not).

Now here is the problem - you cannot WhoIs protect a .Us domain name. This means anyone can see my real details and who I am and contest the fact that I am a Us citizen (which I am not) and potentially take my domain away from me.

Godaddy do allow you to change the details of the registrant, I wondering if this changes the WhoIs data or not?

Does anyone here have any advice regarding this? Any help would be much appreciated. I don't want to invest money into a website if it can potentially be stripped from me.

The .US domain is also available to foreign entities with a "significant US presence." If this domain is truly a valuable one, you can set up an LLC in the US for less than $500. You can also "partner" with US citizens who would hold the domain name (I did this for an old business acquiescence in the UK while he took care of some trademark issues). Changing the GoDaddy data WILL change the WhoIs data.

Unfortunately the domain is not worth spending $500 dollars on but I will change the data on Godaddy and take my chances that no one will attempt to take the site down.

I do not think anyone cares....

I might be wrong.. but I do not see someone fighting over this...

I have owned several .us domain with bogus information and never had any problems but then again my domains weren't extra ordinary.
