    Hi all,

I have a scenerio, I sold an iPhone 4 on amazon in the end of september, it was in excellent condition worked perfectly fine. I shipped it to the guy, he got it within 2 days. Now 2 days ago i get an email that he wants a refund because the microphone isnt working (people can't hear him). I never had any issues with the phone and I am 100% sure that it is working perfectly fine. I sent the guy an e-mail back asking him a few questions about possibly people can't hear him as well because of his carrier or the location where he talks on the phone or w.e. He never responded to my e-mail as of yet. What should I do??

He didn't respond when I contacted him via e-mail. Now what if he send me the phone and it is damaged or something. The phone was working perfectly fine up until i put it in the box to send it out. I literally used it till the last minute right before i got the new iphone.

Well then it is going to come down to your word vs his. In legal terms as long as you can prove that the phone worked before you shipped it Ie you had someone in the room or you get the person you were talking to as witnesses with your phone record to back it up. Really the phone records by themselves should be enough, why would you make calls if the mic didn't work.

If we are talking about business terms ie your rating as a seller, that is slightly harder. To protect your rating you could do as you say and send it back risking the damage (BUT make him agree in an email to not give you a bad rating).

But before that I would be looking at his history and see if anything unusual has happened with him. The dating alone makes me suspicious. For me living in the land of OZ it is the 9th here so let's deduct 4 days for the shipping and when you received the email. Let's assume that you sent it on the very last day of September that leave about 5 days max for him to have the phone. If there was a problem with the mic why did he not contact you the first day? Heck let's assume even more that the first couple of days he texted, used apps or was extremely busy with work and didn't call anybody that is still 3 or so days for him to contact you.

The main problem is that more often than not amazon/ebay whatever you used usually sides with the buyer not the seller so it is always better to settle things yourself hopefully avoiding dragging them into it.

Edit: Also forgot to mention I think you are a little bit rattled. If he has contacted you once and sent the phone back straight away all you would do is check it over see if it works, find any recent damage that wasn't there before and send it back. If he sent it back straight away with no dialogue between you two you are under no obligation to simply accept it. In fact that would make me really suspicious because it purposely puts pressure on the seller with added costs that would come with the product.

I sell a lot of products on Amazon. If the customer wants a refund there is nothing you can do, take it back and if there is a problem with it then you have to prove to Amazon that he caused it. I do get refunds but only had about refunds total. Each product I got back from Amazon had nothing wrong with them at all, just ended up selling them in our store front.
