Need a poke in the right direction

I've been interested in internet marketing past few years. I've tried few methods, I made some money, but it wasn't that great. I've been periodically returning to this forum to try it again but mostly with little luck. I want to change that because I am looking for a steady income (however small it might be in the beginning)

So, as the title says, I need a poke in the right direction. I'll start off with my skills, I am professional web developer so web design and website coding isn't a problem for me. I am a technical person in general. I've knowledge of SEO, how search engines work, how to rank well etc. I am currently making money by coding - it's usually fun but it's very time consuming and sometimes annoying (if you know how clients can be, you'll know what I'm talking about).

So I was thinking where should I start. I can either do what I'm best at (coding/programming), that would seem logical, however in a way that I wouldn't have to work like in a regular job. I don't have any breakthrough ideas like Zuckerberg, Jobs or Gates. So I have to start humble, I thought about making a application (desktop or web), that would for example help you guys with SEO, automatization and so on ... any ideas?

OR I could go the path of SEO, choose a niche (I've already found few small, untapped ones) and work from there. But I haven't been watching the latest trends in BH nor WH SEO so I don't know what is the best way to monetize. Could you suggest me some ideas what's "in"?

As for the joint ventures, I have mostly negative experience with them so I don't really want to go down that path again.

Because I am not an native English speaker, I am not so sure about writing (articles or whatever) either. I can write, but not professionally.

I hope this didn't seem as another "how to make money online?" thread and you didn't skip it by saying "too long, didn't read"

Interesting.... you have all these skills yet no significant profit? Try to freelance, obviously. Mostly the methods here are abused, but the beauty in it is that you have to always put your own twist on everything. Adsense is simple enough to start, do keyword research, SEO, and then the usual stuff that has been posted here over 9000 times, and then flip them or keep them for profit. If you diversify your income i.e. CPA, Adsense, site flipping, freelance, you won't have to worry about hitting low income days or weeks, since it will be in different markets.

hey i have a pretty nice idea about a program but no money to hire a programmer. PM with your email i'll tell you the idea and we can partner and make it happen. you make the program i'll make it popular

If you have the skills to make an application that you could sell then I think this is the route you should go.

The problem then is "What to make?". There is software out there that will do what most people want it to do. You just need to find something that either you can improve on or something totally new.

Look at the likes of Sweetfunny who has made Scrapebox and Scrapeboard. Also Botmaster who has made Xrumer. Both of these people are (probably) pretty well off financially. They might do internet marketing on the side, but the main thing is they have programs which work and sell extremely well.

Everyone wants the gold. These people sell the tools to mine the gold, and by doing so they earn more than the gold diggers!

If you have the brains like you say, then I think you should make and sell the tools.

Actually I am freelancing. The problem lies in time. I go to school so I have to work in the remaining time. And there's not very much of it. Sometimes I would rather slack off then go to school in the morning and then work till midnight.

Just a suggestion, you are not an english speaker, but in your language have websites and niche area. Just target a niche in your language and work it!

Well, there aren't many internet affiliate programs in my language. CPA and similar stuff is almost non-existent. It's better than what it used to be though, I might do some research on that. Thank you for suggestion

if your competent with php coding and web shells etc etc i would happily jv with you on a project so long as your dont mind coding black hat scripts

I'm in a very similar boat to you at the moment. One big problem is focus -- or more specifically: lack thereof.

Decide on ONE thing you wish to do, and stick to it. Use all the knowledge you've acquired in the past few years to become THE BEST in that niche. Make it your goal to overcome your competition and do things better than they're currently doing them.

Also very important is to track everything you do -- metrics, metrics, metrics! That way you know if what you're doing is improving or getting worse.
