Hopefully this is not a dumb question, and someone can help me out here.

I plan on buying a domain (matching my company name) to run an online store. So my question is say some company in another country has the same company name and the domain name, but the domain is abc.uk, abc.in etc. (not .com but country specific)

Will I have an issue legally for this?

eg: Say in England there is 'onlineshop.uk' and they registered the company as 'online shop PVT Ltd.' I know i can register my company in the US as 'online shop LLC' but can I use the same domain name? (onlineshop.us or onlineshop.com)

Thanks,
Mo...

yes , If It a Big Brand they can file a case against you then you will get into trouble .

Most Of the times it wont be a problem but becarefull.

The big brands register their names in the biggest countries anyway. So if you have your name registered without any problems, you can register your domain too since your business name is that.

If you have a registered trademark (your company/store/firm/agency name) in your country, there will be no problem. But it would not be wise to buy cocacola.com.br for example.

Thanks everyone for the quick insight. I guess if I register the name without an issue, I can just get a domain for the same name. And I will not be using any prominent names that are out there like BB, Target, etc.
