Need a confirmation on investment needed on Amazon website

I was chatting with few people, who I know, and they wanted to get started with IM. I told them to go with affiliate model around amazon, like write reviews etc. They asked me how much investment would they need. I told them just few bucks to get a domain and all, and few more should they need SEO done by someone else after let's say 4-5 months of constant publishing.

They told me they can risk $1000 in this model and I made it clear that they should expect revenue only after 6-8 months time. Can someone tell me if this is correct? Assuming they get multiple top 10 ranks for 3000+ exact match keywords can they generate $300+ every month after 8 months? They can write article themselves (long posts around 4000+ words) and can spend $1000 on SEO.

They are kind of friends so I just want them to look at this thread and read everyone's opinion.

There's no defined answer; If the niche is popular with buyers, evergreen and you find the best keywords then yes it's easily possible.

I've seen sellers ( not on her ) guarantee $xxx a month earnings, then buyers say they never got the earnings promised.

You can have an average site, be good at seo / traffic and make sales. You can have an excellent, best ever site but without seo etc make zero sales.
