Navigation menu for SEO purposes: Advice needed

Hello guys,

I have several post-type pages position 3-6 which need some push, I was wondering about placing the pages in the main navigation section or footer navigation section. The question is how to do it and not to f...up current rankings. Does it make sense and will it really help? Ranking pages in question are very well optimized with good link profiles but the competition is high, basically everybody knows what they are doing.

Website is 5 years old, kind of authority in the niche with tens of thousands of keywords already ranking in top 10. The current main navigation is very basic one consisting: "niche category 1", "niche category 2", "blog", "service". The current footer menu is just "privacy policy" and "TOS" pages. "Niche category 1" and "Niche category 2" are category type pages, rest are normal pages.

How would you guys go about this?

I don't think it would be that effecient but ideally should help. You can put on main or footer. It would be an internal link which might not boost it up much. It'll look janky though for a user.

if you want to improve their position via internal linking you need to point links to them, not place them in header / footer. That won't do anything to those pages. It might count as backlinks for other pages on your site (including the homepage), it won't help the pages themselves. Make some normal links instead...
