Namecheap or Godaddy

i have about 9 domains with namecheap and 36 or so with godaddy because i can get a coupon with gd and get a domain for 7.15.
but i admit i have been pennywise and poundfoolish because i will need to upgrade all my domains to whois privacy in the near future.

Namecheap are number one in my opinion. I've also used and can recommend name.com.
Godaddy have masses of horror stories and a very bad reputation, and 1and1 may be cheap but they take forever to actually become active and are a huge hassle to modify (I wasn't ever able to create private name servers with them either).

Namechap.
Godaddy is a mean daddy that wants to punish you for using your domains the way you want. Your account can be locked just for a suspicion that something is wrong, and you have to pay a fee to get access to your account. In essence, GoDaddy can take your domains hostage.
Also, when you buy something from Godaddy they also want to upsell your ass 'till it bleeds. This is, at least to me, extremely annoying and painful.
Oh. And their customer service sucks.
So, will you save $1 each year on your domains or not? It is up to you.

Godaddy has a fantastic control panel that allows you to do 100% effective masking, cloaking, and forwarding. it will even accept affiliate IDs!?
I would only them for this purpose now.
I will not risk using them for sites that I am hosting. I KNOW 3 people that have had serious problems with GDaddy. 1-2 lame spam complaints, or even if some dork contacts them because you would not give them a refund? they can and will put you domain (and even others in your account) in limbo, and will even try to keep you from transferring.
and transferring? they have some secret BS there too! they will NOT let you transfer if you are within 60 of renewal or for at least 30 after (the after, is I believe part of ICANN rules)
GDaddy also hits you up (hard) for privacy later on! usually free with a new domain, but $10 on renewal, AND if you have privacy? if you do not want it? you must cancel privacy manually before you renew...you can not just not renew it when you renew your domain. they also give you a separate account number for your privacy....good luck getting them to send you info on logging in if you have lost your ID or password.

Godaddy are cool until it comes to renewal! Just a few days late, now they want $1000 for a domain that cost $6. Bastards! Namecheap are much much much better!

well i guess if you are late, you could lose your domain entirely. but its still not good to screw customers for so much.

Namecheap or 1and1.com (free private whois)
I have accounts and domains at both GoDaddy and Namecheap. I personally prefer Namecheap as they do not charge for keeping your WHOIS info private for the first year. Somtimes, I just choose based on who has the best coupon deal going on at the time. For instance, yesterday I registered a domain name for 5 years on a coupon (OYH3) for $38.

I would rather go with Godaddy. They are very easy to work with. I currently own few domains in each.

I started off buying domains from namecheap, but moved on to godaddy with my new domains because most people were buying it from there. Not only that, but they have more coupon codes. I still own few domains in namecheap, and my next domain might be in namecheap. Posts above started to scare me. Why is godaddy so bad? There must be specific reason they took your domains or ban you. Namecheap is isn't cheap for me, yet more expensive.
I do agree that NameCheap staffs are more friendly then Godaddy!

I've never really been happy with godaddy I have a few domains on there mostly .infos nothing major. I prefer name.com I started using them because they were offering cheap .com's. I've been using them for about a year and I've not had a problem with them.

You know, I would use them if they were cheaper then Godaddy. I don't suppose they have discounts like $3 or something similar for their .coms? Let me know if there are any recent October codes out there that will reduce the price.

i use 'name cheap' because it was recommended by marlon sanders for its features.
also, i've heard many bad things about gd. accounts getting shut down, etc.
at least nc gives you whois protection. my first account is getting mucho spam
lately as the data isn't cloaked. i didn't use nc to register it, i used the hosting
service.

Alright well, thanks for the heads up. I just registered another domain at namecheap few minutes ago, though I paid maybe a dollar extra than godaddy (including the coupon) and got the free whois protection as well.
