While I'm not exactly the paranoid type, nor do I scribble around with conspiracy theories, I'd never really trust all my money in the Internet. Sure it's way, way more convenient to keep your bigger funds somewhere in the bitcloud with the ability to withdraw via any ATM, but I still need some funds that I can actually touch. Call me old-fashioned for keeping such "emergency funds", but I'd never want to see "regular" money go away - and in my lifetime it will not happen anyways.

But on-topic, I'm happy to see NC taking up BitCoin, as I still have some left in my wallet(s), and could use a domain or two now. Guess I can just top up my NC account with those and pay.

Maybe I'm not as smart as I thought, but............How can you just make money (bitcoins) out of the blue?? I don't understand!

I kinda get the principle: Based on demand of any given good, you can sell that good for a price. Just like virtual currency in a game, if someone wants more gold they can buy it.

is that how bitcoins work?

AFAIK "mining" is not really that profitable anymore, so no need to bother with it - especially unless you have some really high end computers at your disposal.
