I used them between November 2020 and November 2021, but I've moved away from them because their SSLs are only free for the first year, and back then I had 12 sites that needed SSL and that would have cost me $100-ish in SSLs alone which is not too much, I'll admit. But why pay even $100 when most hosting providers offer SSLs for free?
Anyway, that was only 1 of the issues, and the smaller one. The biggest one is that they've tried charging me 2.5x the renewal cost when my plan was due for renewal.
When I signed up with them in November 2020 I took advantage of their BF deal which was offering their best sharing hosting plan (Stellar Plus I think it was called) for $16 for the 1st year, and for $53 starting with the 2nd year.
But 1 week before the 1st year was about to expire they've tried charging my credit card for $155. Lucky me that I only had like $8 or so on that CC otherwise I would have lost the money because (and here's the biggest problem) as soon as I saw that charge attempt on my CC I immediately contacted their support via live chat explaining the situation but couldn't get to terms with them until I have showed them the invoice that they have just sent me minutes before trying to charge my CC lol... In that invoice it was clearly stated that the new billing would be $53 but they probably thought that I didn't have this invoice, or that I don't care or something, so they've tried to scam me even via support.
After I showed them the invoice they've went silent for 5-6 minutes and then came back with an apology about how their system messed up but told me that starting with the next billing I would have to pay $66 instead of $53 because their pricing structure had changed, which I have no problem with, but what really bothered me is that they've not told me that the prices would increase. Normally, they should send an email months (or at least weeks) before you're billed again for the next cycle so you can have time to decide whether you want to continue using them or move your sites out to another company. But I've never received any such update, and this had bothered me...
Anyway, I kept paying for the 2nd year but even after I ended the chat with the support staff I immediately unlocked my domain names and transferred the sites out immediately because I didn't want to risk getting locked into their weird schemes...
And not long after these incidents, complaints have started piling up against Namecheap, I've listed a few of them in this post:
