It seems that .xyz domains are now all considered purchased on namecheap and they are redirecting to Domain Agents to make you submit a higher offer.

I put in some random thing and on Namecheap and then tried it on godaddy and whois, both whois and godaddy showed the domain as available.

It may take some time to update the system, when did u buy that domain? Also, I think if u ve already bought that domain on namecheap, paid them and recieved the confirmation letter, then if u try to buy the domain on GoDaddy, even if it is showing 'available' - at the end u will recieve a message which says it is not available. I am using namecheap services for 2 years, never had a problem with them yet.

I was looking to buy a domain on namecheap since I already have money in my account there. Every single .xyz I tried all came back with that, even when you put a bunch of random letters and numbers

This is correct, xyz domains are not listed as one of the extensions they sell: https://www.namecheap.com/domains/registration/gtld.aspx

They still list it probably because they make a lot from idiots who do not know what they're doing. It's business, not a scam.

i talked to a rep last week they no longer offer them. i have a bunch! they are great for parasite sites!

Its a scam when they mention "Your offer will be presented to the owner." when the domain isn't even owned by anyone, and you need to put $199 minimum to purchase it from a non existent owner.

Over the 10 years I've purchased domains I've never purchased anything other than: .com, .net and .co.uk ... I do not see any purpose in the others. Even for churn and burn domains .xyz looks shifty as fk. I've also never used any registrar other than namecheap. Never seen a scam from them.

If a site gets big, I can always rebrand quickly and redirect to a good tld.
