Name change

I've seen multiple accounts here having this icon(attached below) in front of their display name. On clicking, it shows previous names associated with that account. But I've also seen at least one other account as well who have changed their name, but they don't have this icon in front of their display name.
Any particular reason for two different approaches?

I’d like to know this as well. I never understood why some users username history was visible while the others weren’t.

This thread got moved to "forum suggestions" now, so I think this caught the eye of an admin/mod.

So, I want to give a suggestion to totally remove this icon/history.

The username change history is like that by default; you should see this with nearly ever member.

A staff member does have the option of not displaying it after they change member's username, though. One reason I can think of off the top of my head is if the old username had some personal details in it.
