I just started out with article marketing and my first article was approved by ezine several days ago. It was on the first page of Google on the first day, and made one sale after a couple of hours. Next day it bumped down to page two, and on day three it vanished.

It's still number one on the first page for the phrase in quotes, but it's nowhere in the first 15 pages for the phrase without quotes.

Now, I was pretty much expecting this to happen from what I've been reading here, and intended to start building backlinks from other articles and social bookmarking, etc. But when I looked at the pages that were on the first few pages of Google results I saw an ezinearticles article by someone else.

The article didn't have the keyword phrase I used in the title or anywhere in the article. It did have a related keyword. It wasn't particularly well-written and when I put it into backlinkwatch it had no backlinks listed. The only thing it has over my article is that it was written back in August.

I've read around here that Google can sometimes bounce people's pages all over the place in the results, so now I'm wondering. Should I wait a week or so to see if my article settles somewhere before building backlinks to it, and just focus on writing other articles for other keyword phrases in the meantime? Or would it be better to do the backlinks now?

Build backlinks right away. Think about it: when you buy a new domain, install wordpress on it and so on...what's the first thing you'll want to do? Get it indexed. What's the fastest way: digg it. In other words - bookmark it. It's the same with ezine articles. Good luck to you.
