Myspace suing cpaempire

I'm sure most of you have seen this news, but is it affecting anyone here? Personally I think as long as your not phishing accounts your probably somewhat safe.

MySpace sues alleged big-time spammer

News Corp.'s popular social networking site says marketing firm Media Breakaway posted millions of fraudulent messages on users' accounts.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- News Corp.'s MySpace said Monday it has sued an e-mail marketing executive for an unspecified amount of damages, saying he and his company were behind millions of junk e-mail, or spam, messages sent to its customers' accounts.
MySpace, the largest Internet social network with more than 150 million user profiles, filed the lawsuit against Scott Richter in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles last Friday.

The company also requested a permanent injunction barring Richter, the chief executive of marketing firm Media Breakaway, from entering its network.
Richter and his associates "arranged for millions of spam 'bulletins"' to be sent from MySpace users' accounts without their knowledge by gaining access to them illegally, according to the lawsuit.
A representative for Richter was not immediately reachable for comment.
In 2005, Richter paid $7 million in a post-judgment settlement of a lawsuit filed by Microsoft (Charts) and former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for sending e-mail spam.
MySpace is taking tougher measures against unlawful use of its social network, from the illegal transfer of copyrighted music and entertainment to establishing measures to protect its large population of teenage viewers from adult predators. News Corp. bought the company in September 2005.

I've known for awhile that MySpace has been putting pressure on ad and affiliate networks to stop spamming affiliates from invading "their" space. Jon the owner of the WickedFire forum and an Affiliate Summit panelist reports from the Summit that Myspace has announced it will be suing at least 20-25 ad networks. Jon says these are networks that "many of you know all too well. Some really big ones, others are small to medium sized." He says "Myspace is seeking punitive damages from $20 million to $75 million PER network." For now let's call this an unconfirmed rumor but it sounds like we'll hear more after Summit. Jon reports:

what is cpaempire? and what does CPA stand for? is it a spammer network or something

CPAEmpire is an affiliate network. You make money by promoting other websites. CPA stands for "Cost Per Action". Example...you promote a website that sells memberships to a dating site. For every member that signs up through your affiliate link, you get paid $1. So everytime the "Action" of siging up to the site occurs, you get paid.

i dont want to join one that is being sued and then they go out of business

Lots of companies are under this lawsuit, it wouldn't suprise me if even clickbooth, cj, and azoogle were also sued.

I just thought I would find the oldest thread I could (like many members here do) and drag it back to the top of the forum. I mean it is only a few years old. Surely, it can teach us something. Right?
