Hi all,

This is my first post in this awesome universe of BHW. ( Means go easy on me please :p ) I am reading threads for a while and finally thought to take an initiative. I am from a small Asian country and I thought of starting a Wedding Website (Planning + Directory + Blogs + Image Gallery ). I bought the domain and I am a somewhat tech-savvy person. (I can work with Linux, AWS, Web Servers ). I do have a few questions, please help me.

1. My website will be in my native language ( I am from Sri Lanka, Language will be Sinhala ), which means I won't be able to apply for Adsense since it does not support this language. Is there any way to find an ad network that supports native languages.
Note: I can make my site somewhat bilingual (English + My native Language), but it will be mostly in my native language since I do not need to compete with global Wedding corporations.

2. What are the possible monetization methods?
Note: Amazon's affiliates will hardly work since Amazon is not very popular on my Island but eBay and AliExpress are!
Note2: I am thinking about reaching out to wedding vendors directly and offer them packages for advertisements.

3. Are there any affiliate networks that I can embed into my niche? ie: I will be able to embed a travel affiliate link inside an article with the title "Best Budget Honeymoon destinations"
If you know any options, suggestions please let me know.

4. Since I can work with Web technologies I can host the website in AWS under their free tier, But It will be expensive after that first year. Therefore It does not look like the best idea for me. What is the most cost-effective way to host my site given that I can find my way around an Nginx web server? (I am pretty much open to a cheap, reliable hosting service even though it does not need any tech knowledge, I just put that if it unlocks more options).

5. I am open to any suggestion, if you have any ideas, suggestions, concerns please let me know.

6. What are some best English Wedding sites I can get inspiration from? Maybe I will be able to get new ideas for articles, new monetization methods.

Thank you very much in advance!
Keep hustling!

Edit: Adding the 6th point.

No need to delete this thread, just request to @MisterF to move this thread to Journey Section. Good luck with your Journey

As the traffic will be mostly local, try to get local advertisement. Event management or wedding planner or caterers, all of them should work.

To be frank i dont actually see you earning big amount from this website unless it becomes really huge site which is difficult because of the less population of sri lankans.

It is really not a good idea to create a site on such a large and profitable topic, using only one language, which is very unpopular.

Affiliate commission from e-commerce (Wedding dresses, gifts and other things)
Lead generation for people involved in wedding industry.
Affiliate commission from airlines, hotels etc.

Build the product first...once you start getting 1000 UV per day, you'll find several ways to monetize..all traffic can be monetized :)

@MisterF could you please share this thread to the IM Journeys section?

This is one awesome suggestion.

This motivates me, I went through the stats and there are 300,000+ wedding every year in my country and people spend a fortune on their weddings. If I can create a brand and make partnerships with local wedding vendors I will be able to make a nice sum of pocket money.

Update 1.

I created an Oracle Cloud Account, (Yes I know they do not have a much reputation, but they offer always free two VMs). I will be installing WordPress on one of the VMs.
I have hired my own sister as a writer. Whilst she helps me by writing I will be able to help her a bit financially, she could use this little extra money.

I decided to use @Festinger's "Wedding Vendor" theme for the blog/wedding directory. If you guys do have alternative suggestions I am more than happy to hear them.
I am excited!!!!

For monetization, I'll go for:
1. Adsense.
2. ShareASale.
3. Try to resale from others.

Top wedding websites from where to get inspiration:
TheKnot, WeddingWire, MarthaStewartWeddings. You can find more on Google. There are a lot of websites who provide articles like "Top 10/50/100 weddings websites" or something like that.

Regarding the hosting, it really depends of how much traffic you get ( and how well optimized is your website ). Also, if you want to go locally, try a hosting from your country zone.

Good luck!
