I have this website of mine which's build around my music hobby. It's .net tld and I was waiting the .com to become available.. anyway, I forgot to keep an eye on it and someone snatched it before me and tried to sell it to me for $500 as they saw I had a .net and live website .. I didn't respond to him because I knew he was a domainer (taster) doing his thang.. after that, some other guy tried to sell it to me for $49.90.. I didn't respond to him either... then, moment ago I checked if the .com was availabe and yes: it was! So I snatched it for regfee.. lol

I'm glad I've been doing some domaining myself, It saved me some $$$

Congratulations but what do you mean another guy tried to sell it to you? Had the first guy who tried to sell it to you for $500 sold it to the other guy or what? Anyway, congratulations! Over what amount of time period had this happened?

This all happened in a two or three weeks. Most likely the first guy dropped it because I didn't buy it and the second guy regged it for regfee. ...Some registrants (like DynaDot) allows you to register a domain and then, if you don't like it, you have 5 days grace period in which you can drop it and get your money back to your DynaDot account. It's called domain tasting. Some domainers do that.. they register domains, try to sell them (flip) quickly for profit and if they won't sell they simply request delete for credit and get their money back. And so on. Though DynaDot's disabled the grace period for now because of the ICANN charges..

I don't know if they're still doing it, but there was a time when Verisign was registering every queried domain search on their website. So if you went there and did an availability search on "NewYorkLamaClub.com" and it was available, they would grab it for 5 days so you would have to register through them.

From what i have heard, ICANN is going to discontinue domain tasting later this year.
