Hi all,
So about 3 years ago I made a tutorial video and uploaded it on YouTube. The tutorial was for a video streaming app that lots of people use weekly to watch/stream sport matches. I was very lucky because no one had made a video on this topic, yet it was something that lots of people wanted and needed. I showed people in the tutorial how they can run the app on a Mac when it was purely designed for only Windows. At the time of making this, I had no intention of making money, It was simply just an informative video that I thought would rack up a few views and since no one had made one already; I took the opportunity.
I did monetize the video which did bring in a bit of money, maybe $50 every few months? It wasn't a lot but hey its autopilot money right? Every month It would build until it hit the minimum $100 payout and it would deposit into my account; this would take about 3-4 months in total for it to build up. It wasn't until last year when I thought I wanted to try and upscale so I could make that minimum $100 payout come around quicker (rather than having to wait for months). I had an old domain laying around that I wasn't using (It was a domain I was using for a personal blog in the past). I installed a fresh copy of Wordpress and designed my own theme (I'm a freelance web designer so I know my way around coding a nice theme). I made a post for the video tutorial and linked the video too it, I added some text, an introduction, some documentation for updates on the tutorial and I added a comment section where people could ask for help. I basically built this post up as the "official" home/support page for the tutorial. I added some SEO and managed to rank the post on the first page of Google; so if you Google the main keywords, I'm number one.
So thanks to this ONE post I was starting to bring in a lot of traffic to my blog. Especially just before sports events would start (like Football on weekends for example) because people would want to get this app setup so they can watch the match. I decided I wanted to expand on my blog. I discovered this piece of software called Kodi (which I know a lot of people already make videos/tutorials for). Kodi has A LOT of addons for the software made by thirdparty developers. I decided to make more tutorials for this software of newly released addons, showing people how to installed them, review them etc.. I branded my blog as a place people could go to and find tutorials on new Kodi addons or new video streaming services etc.. I also added a section for reviewing different technology products which would leave option for me if I wanted to start doing Amazon affiliate. So basically I upload a tutorial, make a post on my blog for it, setup SEO and repeat.
I'm raking up about 30-40k visitors per month. My Adsense now makes about $50 PER month (rather than every few months) on just website adverts alone + about $30-$40 per month on Adsense YouTube views on my videos. So I'm basically getting a payout every 2 months now of anywhere between $100 to $180 (depending how much is left over from the previous month). I've also monetized my blog using shorte.st which brings in an extra $30-40 per month.
So lets sum this up.
Payouts for last month:
Adsense for Adverts: $53
Adsense for YouTube: $36
Shorte.st Monetization: $39
I have also signed up for a VPN affiliate that I'm going to try and promote since it fits in with my blog "topic". However I'm yet to make any sales on that. I also setup a plugin on my Wordpress blog called "Social Locker" so it forces people to "like" my Facebook page before they can download the files required for my tutorials. So just to add, I now have a Facebook page sitting at 7.5k followers (which I use to promote new videos/articles/reviews).
Where can I go from here? I want to expand even more. I have been trying to rearrange the position of my Adsense adverts on my blog to perhaps better them and get more click conversion, but I'm just out of ideas. I'm trying to upload more videos as frequently as possible but I seem to be at a halt. If I can go from making $50 every few months to making $50 EVERY month on just adverts alone, I know I can expand even more. I want to be more efficient with this constant flow of traffic I have coming through.
Cheers
