ive been blasting my money site with scrapebox/xrumer blasts, yahoo site explorer says 3k links. the #1 guy for my niche only has like 1k links, niche isnt competitive at all. i should at least be on the first page easy. my site always google dances though... been like this for a month. seems like im never going to rank.

There are lots of different factors involved to get your rankings to stick...

    Here are some tips:
    - Keep your links coming in steadily. I do not worry much about the volume though!
    - Have a good Link Diversity. Do not get all your links from only one source.
    - Content is king. If your website is crappy or not unique, don't waste your time in SEO.
    - Include some internal pages in your promotions too.

    Most important:
    - HAVE PATIENCE.. Results are not observed overnight.... Keep the link flow going and observe the results every few days.

Every time Google finds a number of new back links (IMO 5-10%) in bulk it decides to do a complete reevaluation of where your site should indeed lay in the results.

It takes a period of time to collect all the information it requires to generate an accurate assessment of your sites true value and hence the constant movement within the results.

One factor I believe people overlook is link age. Its all very well to have x,xxx or xx,xxx backlinks but Google needs to ask it self, how many of these links are permanent, worthwhile and what value should I place on each of them. As a result the longer a link exists the more worthwhile it is.

So lets say Google gives a each link a bonus based on the age of that particular link, ie.

Each link receives a multiplier of x^2 where x is the number of months a link has exited for. So your 3000 links have each existed for 1 month ie link value = 3000 x 1^2 = 3000

Where as his links have exited for 2 months 1000 x 2^2 = 4000 therefore the value of his link structure outweighs yours.

The point I'm trying to make is that as each link ages it becomes a better indicator of site quality and relevance (if the site wasn't relevant the link would be removed). Please remember that there are a number of other factors that influence the value of a link and this is by no means the be all and end all of link value assessment, however it may explain the problem you are seeing.

If anyone's interested I have some more theory's on link values.

Georges, from the information you have provided it looks like that you are not ranking in the top two pages on google. So its not really a real google dance. A real google dance is when you are ranking on page 1 and then disappear to page 20 and then go back to page 1 after some time. This happens when you make too many links in a short period of time on a new website.
What you have is what i call the "other google dance" when you are trying to rank to get to page one but you keep going up and down for a while and not getting there. It means that google is seeing your links and is slowly moving you up in serp. Maybe you need to speed up the linking process by adding some high pr web 2.0 links to your site.

I have sites that are #1 with 20 links, difference is they are highly relevant links. Please re-read what you wrote niche isn't competitive and you're blasting shitty spam links at it,so you could end up with 5k plus links for a non competitive niche,a bit suss no?Look at the top site and try and get as any links on sites he uses as you can.Relevant links will always outweigh crap links. If he has,say,500 decent links you'll need a shitload of crap links to get near him and that causes another problem having ,say 15k links in a non competitive niche wouldn't be good.Find some decent links,do an article submit.Automated tools are good,if used properly. How old is your site btw thats a big factor.Slow it down and now focus on decent links you'll get there. The #1 site might be a well aged domain with quality links.Try using scrapebox to find quality relevant sites and manually post.I think google will start seeing how many links are coming from pages and where to and dismiss the crap.It wouldn't be a hard algo to build in simply eliminate all links from a page with the words viagra, penis, sex and you'll bring most automated links to a halt overnight.
Anyway get some quality links, put some effort in,a monkey can fire 10k of links with those progs, start doing some real quality work and you'll get there. You've boosted your numbers now go build some quality links to make those number count. If your site is less than 6 months old you won't hit the first page(or at least it VERY unusual to do so).Scrapebox and xrumer work best with aged domains because those type of domains can take a good run with dancing a new site usually can't.Do social boomarking work, some video submissions if it ties in with the service\product.Maybe try and see if you can get a google places listing to sell what you have, you page one them in a week or 2 if you're good.Anyway let us know the age of the site please.

To settle down this dance you will need more quality links, not just more links. Try also link exchange with some relevant sites.

First off, what is with the attitude. I'm surprised that the people above this reply are actually helping you after that comment.

Second, I've had a number of sites do exactly what you are describing. The solution seems to be remaining consistent with linking. If you're too impatient to wait, then why not try ranking another site or property for that keyword?

I've done this a few times and now I own a few spots for a number of keywords.

Wow I could not even try to explain this any better. You are completely right about this. I have also experimented with the % of new links vs. aged links. Im not sure what the magic number is, but I have seen in my test sites that they drop 1st page rankings once I get too many new links vs. my aged links. So im logging how many links I acquire each week/month and compare them on a % basis to my overall link count.

I agree with you. Some of my site goes straight to the first page after being indexed. I guess it's because im targeting micro niche sites with virtually no competition. Some sites I have to work a little to get them to page one but most of my sites reach page 1 in well under 6 months.
