This happens everytime now. I have been having this site for over a year and a half now. Its a .info domain and it has been down for over 3 weeks twice and once over 4 months. But each time after I se it up after these long breaks, the site does very well in google and usually ranks on the first page or the second page and gets good traffic. But after like 3 weeks , it falls off the radar and does not show up at all for a long time. Then all of a sudden it would pop back again on the first page.

Could some one explain why this is happening and what I should do to stop this ?

I built backlinks from forum profiles when I set up the site the very first time and after that I ve done a few now and then whenever i get an opportunity.

So in total your site has been down for around 6 months,
Bearing in mind G visits your site once a month (dep on PR) then just under 50% of the time it has visited your site, there has been nothing there.

Suprised your ranking at all tbh. Try and keep your site live, G likes consistency.

You let a site fall off the web for 4 months and wonder why google thinks your site is not worth ranking? It doesn't take a genius to understand that eventually even the big G will give up on your site and flag it unreliable. G might give a few chances but eventually G will pull the pin on you.

Try building steady backlinks each month. Continually increasing them should alleviate the surge in traffic you're seeing and provide more stability.

Google gives importance to new content or information and that's why you ranked for some times... After some times it adjust your site to it's actual position... What is happening with your site that you are taking it off and most probably Google is delisting your site in that phase... SO you are just repeating yourself.... Although it should not happen more then 1-2 time....

If you want to continue your rank or want to come back in top then forget about taking out your site, optimize it, update it as frequently as possible, start bullding backlink... In start build few links and then increase it slowly...

Once you start doing this, your site will start rising in SERP and after some times you can see it ranking for your desired keyword... Also it will not come down easily but again it need work...
