My goal is to eventually create a profitable Amazon Affiliate site. I am relatively new to the world of SEO/IM but, I have been reading up on it and I've learned a lot. I feel as if it is time for me to dip my toes in and try out my new skills. I have created websites before; done some graphic design work, and generally have a decent proficiency with things like this. I've made about $4k "off the internet" this year doing mostly data entry and a little copywriting.

My plan is to first create a website with content that I myself find interesting and then after I get it up and running I will start to specifically make content aimed at the amazon affiliate side of things. I am doing this in order to ease myself into the process as I feel a bit overwhelmed and I think that by dealing with a subject that I myself enjoy it will make the experience much easier.

    Niche
I live in an area with a ton of great outdoor activities. I plan on first writing up content for local outdoor attractions (think rafting, trails, parks, camping spots) with t such images, maps, and reviews of particular attractions. I am going to use this as the base of my website and will later be able to transition into writing content for related products in which I can use to direct people towards my amazon affiliate links.

    Roadmap
    1. Get Website Up and Running (Domain/WP Theme,Plugins/General Design)
    2. Create Base Content (Research particular attractions/visit them, edit pictures, create write-ups)
    3. SEO Work (Round 1)
    4. Research Related Amazon Products
    5. Keyword Research
    6. Product Reviews
    7. SEO Work Cont.

    Conclusion
This is a new experience for me and I wish to share the learning process with you guys as I feel it will be valuable for both myself and any newcomers who would like to learn along with me. I am determined to follow through with my plan and hopefully success will follow. However, this is a learning process and I most remain flexible and willing to learn. I welcome your guys' comments and feedback. Please feel free to comment on or critique my plan/methods

Why don't you start writing Amazon Affiliate articles directly? I might have missed that point.

Also, what is your goal with this journey? I don't see it mentioned in OP.

Anyhow, your plan looks good stay consistent and you'll most likely will succeed.

Best of luck! I will be following! :)

    1. I am not starting with affiliate articles because I feel writing about content related to the niche will be a good initial learning experience for me. I will have a fully functioning website (something I haven't created in awhile) that I play around with SEO before I fully jump into the waters. I feel as if it is a good use of my time because I can learn from it and it'll further add to the content on my website. I have also thought about potentially using/chaning the non-amazon articles in the future into amazon affiliate articles (i.e. camping gear suggestions on an article for a specific camp ground).

    2. Right now I would say my goal is pretty fluid and I hope to continue expanding in the future. I think an initial goal of $10/day is a good start.

I really appreciate your questions/comments. Your Amazon Aff. journey is one that I read and have learned a lot from.

Sounds great. Good luck with your plan.

All I will say is that for this kind of niche I don't think you should limit yourself to amazon. You will find plenty of affiliate offers to promote on an outdoors blog. Along with Amazon products, you have a range of travel things to promote, hotels, motorhomes, activities, entry tickets to attraction. Don't be afraid to "think big".

Once you've written your trail guides you can combine them all into one easily downloadable pdf (possibly with "2 bonus trails" or something) that you give out in return for their e-mail. Then you are building a targeted list of people who are interested in the outdoors. You can market products and promotions to them directly. There are always new bits of technology coming out for outdoors stuff that people are interested in.

    Again, good luck.

Thanks for the comments! As for as not limiting myself to amazon, I have most defiantly thought about this. My long plan goal is to eventually turn this into an authority type site in which I can cash in on other methods. I want to start slow though so, at first I will be focusing on Amazon.

I have done a little bit of design work for the site but, that's pretty much it. I plan on diving into it headfirst this evening and into the weekend. I'll be sure to post some updates.
