Would that help or hurt serp?
Meaning: If I copy and paste material from my own blogsite into ezine articles with a link back to my originating site, wooulg g00gle see this a duplicating content in their serp algo?
    should I spin it first?

Not a good idea. Ezine only accepts unique content and even if they took it it would out rank your own site. Much better to spin it first.

I agree, I always keep my site content exclusive to my site. I don't even submit spun versions anywhere else.
