Hi everyone,

I've built many websites over the years for other people but now I would like a change. So I have decided to create my very first affiliate website which will be monitised through Amazon Associates and Google Adsense, I may look into others but these will do for now.

I have just finished setting up the web hosting and purchasing of the domain name. Once the DNS propagation has finished I will install WordPress and start to build the website.

That's it for now, I will update tomorrow once everything is set up.

If anyone has any tips or advice it would be greatly appreciated as this is my first affiliate website.

My tip would be to use the redirection plugin or pretty links to cloak your affiliate links. Don't have raw affiliate links on your site.

Google SEO is a sinking ship in the process, meh, I'm getting out of websites gradually, transitioning into something more stable.

The DNS propagated overnight so I awoke to a blank web server from my web host. I started by installing WordPress and creating an email account for the website.

So far I have done:

  • Installed WordPress
  • Installed necessary plugins
  • Created legal pages
  • Created about and contact pages
  • Found a nice theme to work with

With all of that out of the way I can concentrate on writing relevant content for the home page, other articles may be outsourced.

Thanks for the replies and advice so far.

Today's Progress

  • Installed a few more plugins
  • Configured WordPress SEO plugin
  • Made a few security changes
  • Started to work on content

Let us know when you start getting the first visitors, can I ask how you intend to get traffic and generate an income?

Is the affiliate link cloaker going to make that big of a difference?
What if I had buttons on my site direction the consumer to amazon?

Good Luck in your journey, what plugins are you intending to use for
Website security?
and Social plugins?

I intend to use SEO at first but I will move onto other methods after such as social media, PPC etc.

I use iThemes for managing the security.

I haven't updated this thread for a while. I've been really busy with work so time to spend on this niche site has been rather limited.

Content creation is going well with over 10 high quality articles produced. Hopefully it should be ready to go live next week, I will report back as soon as this happens.

The site has officially gone live today with the home page finished and a few review articles. Amazon links have been inserted for the relevant products. I will leave it to index and then begin link building in a few weeks.

Update 08/08/14

After launching the website I decided to use a pinging service to get the blog indexed along with a few basic links.

Keywords have started to rank already with a few already on page 2, my main keyword is on page 5. This is a good start so far, hopefully it will continue.

Not really any traffic at this point meaning no commissions so far.
