Having been a member of Blackhatworld now for a number of years and having enjoyed a lot of success and failures, I've decided to come back to IM and start publishing some kindle books. I've not really been doing much IM stuff over the past few years mainly because of my offline business and just generally not being able to get back to the levels of success I enjoyed many moons ago.

Why have I decided to try Kindle and not the other maybe, easier methods?

The answer to this questions is because I really want to start working on something over the next 12 months that will ultimately be something I enjoy doing, white hat, legal and has the possibility of turning in to a passive income later on. Also, zero cost is involved to start and this is ideal for me in my current situation. :smoker:

The first book I wrote for Kindle was in February 2011. I had actually forgot all about it until I logged in to my kindle account a few days ago. The book is a 'How To Make Money Online' book for noobs and takes them through affiliate marketing and setting up websites etc. In total its around 100 pages. It never actually made any sales as I left the price at around $19 and never did any promotion.

The problem with this book is I don't actually have the original file to edit and make changes and the book contains links to a website I no longer own. The domain is available to register and I will register it as soon as I have funds available. For this reason, im just going to leave the book up as a freebie while it runs through the 5 day promotion period.

A few days ago I also wrote a new poker related book but used a lot of material available for free on the web. The material was only available on one website but I still had a notification from Amazon to confirm that I own all the rights. To play it safe I've unpublished this book and will re-write it at a later date.

Just tonight I have finished writing and editing another 'Make Money' book that is for a small niche and from my research on Amazon, will be the only book of its kind available on there. The book is around 20 pages long and although I am happy with the book in general, there's still a lot of information I can add to it at a later date if there seems to be a demand for it.

I currently have some ideas on how I can maybe write some decent books (in a very popular category) in a very short time. I would say this idea is semi-blackhat (although content will be original) but im confident it may allow me to pump out 3-4 books a week without breaking any of Amazons T&Cs and still produce quality, indemand content. The plan is to get one book live and go from there and test.

Current Goals:

  1. Write and Publish 1 Book a Week.
  2. Get at least one sale by the end of January.
  3. Update this thread regularly.
  4. Shorten the process of writing my books.

Action Plan:

  • Update original book from 2011.
  • Promote 'Make Money' book #2 once live on the marketplace
  • Test new ideas for writing content quicker.
  • Re-Write Poker book.
  • Spend at least 2 hours promoting the books once they enter the free promotion period.

Aim of the thread:

  • Keep me motivated.
  • Keep you motivated.
  • Share ideas and experiences with other members.
  • Provide updates about my journey.

God luck man! I am wondering if I should venture into the Kindle world too, to diversify a bit. Do you follow a specific method for marketing? This is totally new to me.

I have no real specific plan for marketing as of yet. My plan at the start is to just post on related forums when the book is in the free promotion period to get more exposure. I am also going to use the free services on authormarketingclub.com to submit my books to other sites, again while they are still in the free promotion period.

My first book from 2011 has over 400 free downloads with no marketing at all in just over 2 days. If this will result in any sales, who knows?

I have a couple of WSOs and other products I need to go through a little more to help me draw up a plan for marketing.

Kindle marketing is something I want to get into this year.

Best of luck with your plans :)

Good luck! I've also been writing for Kindle for 6 months now. After sharing my experience with other Kindle writers I can say that most people unfortunately fail. Nevertheless, there is big potential and it's def worth a try.

I've been following a few kindle journeys but none of them really stuck around. I hope you don't disappear on us.

Good luck Ash1ey! I'll be following you on your journey :)

How does your book undergo free promotion?

You have have up to 5 days free promotion during the first 90 days of your book being published. You could have all 5 days one after another or you could spread them out over the 90 days.

A couple of things I forgot to add in my original post.

1) Each book I publish will have a link at the start and end of the book to an opt in form so I can try and build targeted lists for each niche I release a book in. Currently using mailchimp and directly linking to the opt in form.

2) If after 30-60 days of releasing a book, no sales have been made, I plan on unpublishing the book and using the content for a website. Again to build lists but also to try and earn some adsense revenue. If I feel the book has potential I may look at trying to market it a little more before I do this.

Plan for Today:

Go over a couple of the info products I have for marketing kindle books and draw up a plan for marketing book number 2 tomorrow once its showing as 'free' on amazon.

That's all I really have planned for today. I got accepted in the latest rounds of beta invites, for this weekend, for Elder Scrolls Online so after a few hours work im going to chill out and play some of that.

Look forward to your journey. I hope you can keep it going and get my ass motivated.

Plan For Today

Spent the last few hours submitting my new book to various websites that list free kindle books. Submitted to roughly 20 sites. Also tweeted and scheduled around a total of 25 tweets to go out to Kindle/Book related Twitter accounts.

Going to take a break soon then start researching/writing my next book for a few hours.

Had around 6 re-tweets and built up some new followers on my twitter account when promoting my new book on twitter.

Plan For Today:

After some research yesterday I am ready to start my 3rd book in a completely different niche to the last 2. I downloaded Dragon Naturally Speaking and I am going through a few of the training parts to help improve the accuracy when dictating. Although I'm fast at typing, I feel this will help me pump out more content quicker. The plan today is get at least 75% of the book complete with an aim to publish it on Wednesday.

Are you monitoring the traffic from the links in your books, like to your mailchimp forms?

Honestly I feel stupid for saying this, but no I haven't. Future books I will definitely will.

Plan For Today:

Due to some other commitments I was unable to do any of my plan for yesterday so I'll try and get that done today.

Happy that I have a new subscriber to the list i created. Gives me a little motivation to keep going :)

Interesting, I internet-know somebody who makes a great deal through writing online. Good luck with your adventure.

Good stuff, although, is there a lot of potential in selling your own ebooks on kindle? And btw, how do you promote them?
Thanks,
BA,

Thanks,
BA,

For promotion I have submitted the book to a few kindle sites that lists books on free promotion and have tweeted a few kindle related profiles on twitter.

My next book I plan to promote a lot more. Like getting some reviews on the book and posting in related forums etc.
