My new i7 build won't boot

Hey guys,

Gutted. Forked out on an i7 950 chip, installed it with working 6gb ram onto an asus P6T SE board. I boot it up, the fans spin for a few minutes and then the whole thing powers down again. It's like the board isn't getting enough power. I have an old 750w PSU with 4-pin atx connectors. Do I need to upgrade to a newer PSU, what else could it be. The bios isn't coming up.....

Any motherboard lights on? I guarantee you it is definitely not the psu.
 
Did you plug the power cord from the PSU in the CPU power socket? If there the socket is larger than the power plug, plug it in the bottom slots.
 
Got both the 24 pin atx and the 4 pin atx plugged in. The cpu and graphics card fans spin at a lazy speed like they can't be bothered spinning and the case fans don't work. No idea where to start debugging. Unplugged everything, used one stick of ram etc but I feel it must be the board or the PSU
 
Did you get a post beep? Usually when I installed a new processor and got a post problem it's always something to do with the RAM, but since you mentioned the PSU is old, try checking if it supports the i7. Good luck.
 
I don't have a pc speaker unfortunately but how would I know if it isn't. The model is the FSP700-80GLN

You don't need a pc speaker to hear the beep. Any standard chassis should have a built in speaker that you specifically connect to the board, all for the purpose of system beep. Check your case for this, and if it's there, connect it and see if you get a beep.
 
Did you try clearing the bios, removing battery, reset bios jumper pins, unplugging everything off the motherboard letting it sit for a little then replugging everything?
 
Was the PSU guys, replaced it and got my i7 build up and running brilliant. Thanks for all your help. Appreciated.
