So I'm launching a new android app. It's a very simple widget and will be a d-load for .99 to download. I am searching for anyone here that has any expirience with launching apps.

    What should I expect?
What are some things I can do to make it go viral?
How should I set up the business part? I'm going 50/50 with my developer. It's his first app ever - but with my idea. So it's a learning curve for both of us.

These may sound like tedious questions but I'd like to pay attention detail because I'm planning on running everything smoothly with little hiccups. If anyone can provide solid advice I'd appreciate it.

What you should expect: 1 sale. Why? If you get 1 sale you made your target! If you get 100, you got 10000% your target. If you get a million, you got 1000000% your target. Makes it prettier then if you expect a million sales and only get 900K. (only 90% of my target ;( ).

So anyway. How to get it viral? Everybody would love to know how to get things viral. What I can give you as advice: Make the cool kids get the app first. Cool kids have the apps -> others will get the app. If the geeky kids get it first: -> cool kids will never get it, so others won't either.

    Just my 2cents of advice.

I wish you lots of luck man!

what you should expect depends on what kind of app it is. If it's a stupid game that everyone seems to love downloading nowadays, you might get lucky and have it go viral without any work.

I have an app on Android and iOS. Most likely when your app goes live is when you will see the most sales. After that you will have to do some work promoting it, and do that just like you would anything else. Twitter, fanpages, press releases, paid ads...whatever.

@00civicEX: Thanks for the feedback. The widget is similar to a quote a day. I thought about giving it away for free but I think it will make money right off the bat.
@Dropdown: When you put things into percentages everything sounds bliss - but really it's pennies right? Good point on the "cool kids" vs. the "nerds" I like that angle. Never thought of it that way.
@ways2012: Thanks for your feedback, I'll definately be piping into "app" blogs and sites. I'd love to do a youtube video but I think people are catching on. The regular internet users who know HOW to find the right information are now smarter. The not so regular user probably wouldn't know what apps are. LOL
@dennisyu: People will d-load anything, useful or stupid. I have a dumb air horn app on my droid but I think its funny. I also have the Kaplan GRE examination that I paid 14.99 to download this app. So your right I won't know untill it's approved and on the market.

To promote I think I'll start having my contacts download it and rate the app to get it some credibility. Hopefully from then on... It will just spread and hopefully the "cool" kids will be the oness to spread the word for me.

You could use googles admob.com to advertise and drive downloads of your app for any Android based phone plus you can target different software versions of Android. Not too bad prices per click either, normaly between $0.03 - $0.05.
