My Method! Tried and tested- making $$$

Hey everyone
This is my second post here and even though I don't really get into writing long posts, I thought I would share one of my methods just as a way of saying thank you to all that support us and to those that require a starting point into IM.
I am a single mom to a beautiful 9 year old girl and being single resonates with my constant self evaluation of being a good mother at that; albeit sometimes quiet harshly on my part. Therefore it is of prime importance that I provide for my little one in the best of my abilities. Let's not forget, I am the reason for the welfare of all those around me. What I meant by saying this was, if I am not in a good place in life, all those around me would suffer because I cannot ever give what I don't have. Whether it is money or time or love, if I don't have it I cannot offer it to you. Bottom line, self stability equals to overall stability around oneself.
Moving on to my tried and tested method:

Before starting IM I asked myself the following:

1. What do I want to do?
2. Why?
3. Do I enjoy it?/ What will happen if I get bored? ( I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was little, so I have to be extra cautious )
4. Every venture has risks- am I prepared to take it? What's the cost of such a risk?


Therefore I sat down and answered the questions one by one because no matter what you do in life, you've got to be honest to yourself.

1. I want to work from home because I want to be able be there for my daughter at all times. I want to go into IM because I can scale things up and the only real investment is time and patience along with the will to learn. Self motivation is a key factor.

2. Same as 1.

3. I will not touch anything with a barge pole that is faintly tedious and mind crippling. I want to make my hobby into my work. I love people and I have an innate sense of empathy without appearing to be condescending and patronizing. I want to help people emotionally and therein lies my skill because I am genuinely interested in bringing a smile to someone's face. Life has dealt me with many a raw deals and if I can help even one person, that would make things worthwhile for me and trust me, boredom is miles away when your hobby becomes your work.

4. Time, effort and expectations. We as marketers forget the key factors that could be considered as elements of foundation to any potential business. We get frustrated very soon, we minimise and ignore our efforts by accepting short term failures to be the death of our business. And we expect success from week 1, if not day 1!! Expectations are part of human nature but let's keep it real.

Business is all about trust. You are successful when you acquire people that trust you enough to let you help them in whatever service they require. Be genuine! Be concerned about your audience and then turn them into life long customers. It's a two way street that works very well if done properly and genuinely.

What did I do?

Like I mentioned above, I love people and I am a great listener therefore what I did was purchase a couple of books on 'how to move forward from a heartbreaking divorce',' learn how to forgive yourself' etc. Basically what I did was take a common problem which I have gone through and lend myself to those that need someone to listen to and guide them in a friendly manner ( nothing medicinal!)


Next, I went and made a membership website based upon people that have gone through/are going through heartbreaks, divorces etc.

After the last step I mentioned, I went and posted in places like quora, Reddit, Facebook groups; basically all sorts of social media haunts whereby people lurk just to be heard or that seek a solution to their problems.

All the while that I made comments and posts, I was genuinely interested in those people and in wanting to help them. Finally when my website was finished, I began posting my website links carefully in my responses and comments but in a way that didn't stand out but stood out enough for people to visit it. Remember- in life everyone wants to know, ' what's the catch?' And if they find you simply hanging around to lure them into making money for you then your business is over from day one. Once again, ingenuity is key.

Once I invite them to my website, I do so on the pretext of self help articles etc and then I give them an option of signing up to my newsletters. My newsletters are very personal and do not contain any bs at all whereby they are infiltrated with links after links.

After a good two weeks of acquiring potential customer acknowledgment of my good faith, I get them into my sales funnel. Here, I build ebooks and videos that go into absolute detail. These ebooks are nothing but a detailed yet simplistic approach to the 'given problem' and what I do is take a chapter from all those self help books I mentioned, turn the words around a little, incorporate my real life examples and present it for free.

Once I acquire undivided attention towards my books and videos, I start charging for the elite membership which consists of unlimited books, Videos, self evaluations kits etc. I present it in a way that doesn't look dubious and caters to the demands of my readers. You get the point!

I provide disclaimers saying I'm not a psychologist or a psychiatrist, I'm simply here to listen to you. The benevolence of what I offer in terms of lending my ears, turns into profit in no time and gives me satisfaction as a marketer and as a human being.

The technicalities of how I went about doing everything has not been given as I assume anyone that is a member here has the ability to search for ways of buying a website, install Wordpress, hosting etc. I'm not going to spoon feed anyone but I shall be more than happy to share my experiences as an IM'er and guide anyone that walks on a similar path as mine

Could you go just a little bit more in detail regarding the Social Media posting? I got that part about your posts all looking very personal and organic. But still, how many times where you posting a day? And how long did it take for you to start seeing the memberships come in?

Membership services are the right thing to be doing, despite how much information is available for free. The one thing to pick up on for surprising returns would be brand marketing because of how buyer retention and lifelong commission come into place. Don't ever rely on permanent subscribers as false motivation, even if some do pay surprising amounts come outside of website traffic alone.

If ever needing to move on, gateway platforms or other social networking services will build asset property for long term leftover gains also. If you can find a way to connect advertisements for competitor products this will end up making more.

This is very sound and solid advice, written in great detail. Why are you successful? You understood that you need to provide a service to your customer, and treat him like a human being. I am still at the very beginning of my IM Journey - what i failed to understand at the first step is that its not about the money. But it's about solving peoples problems and providing content that is needed / searched for. Your post is very valuable in teaching this. I figured it out eventually, but still have to implement and find my niche. Thank you for this.

Getting divorced to try this . Congrats OP, with a nice sized dedicated following there is definitely a lot of sub niches and related things to push. Find others in your industry, rub elbows and you can help each other grow. Good luck with your continued success.

Thank you for your questions When it comes to posting online on social media, tell me how different is it from speaking to a couple of people whom you meet over lunch introduced to you through a common friend ? Well, I'd like to say, not much. Difference is we can speak to them face to face and on social media not so much I suppose. Having said so, when I make social media posts I am actually interested in the conversation going on so that I can understand and help or be helped because there are a lot of people who know much more than me so in a way they help me too. Moving along, I would like to reintroduce the word 'ingenuity', once you're looked upon as genuine which you will, that's when you tell people, yeah I know of this website and this is the ebook I got off of it and that's when I share the material to sort of lure them in. I don't feel like I'm taking advantage of them because I truly do care and look at them as compassionate humans that require my help and therefore I charge a little for it. I must tell you, I used to tutor students before and I charged them hourly which they paid happily because they found themselves benefitting from my teaching therefore to pay me a little didn't anger them. It's the same tact I use even in my membership websites because they're all genre based or sub genre based and it's a very interesting place for me to be in because everyday I come across so many heart wrenching stories and to be able to help them makes it worthwhile.
So yes when it comes to social media posting, treat them like people you've met and don't know at all like in AA and slowly you introduce yourself and etc. Give more initially to get more I hope this makes sense.

You're absolutely right and as much as that does appeal to me, right now I'm in a happy place with my business because I truly believe what I'm doing is very scalable. This summer I want to go get a diploma in domestic abuse and treatment. I want to genuinely do this and slowly my plan is to move on to motivational speaking. Sounds crazy but I'm just sharing a little about myself But thank you for this nonetheless and I wish you a wonderful day ahead.

A niche will come to you when you look within yourself. What are you good at? We are all unique beings with unique skills and abilities. What are yours? Don't ever tell yourself or let any schmuck tell you that you don't have any. You definitely do so all you have to do is apply that and market your skills and get your business going. My business model is based upon 'slowly but surely' and at the end of the day, for instance, when I first started I made nothing the first two weeks. It was frustrating to say the least because yes I want to help people but I'm also a business woman. So I went and started sort of gas lighting people whereby a little would be revealed and the rest is available upon purchase of $5.99 (just an example). Week three I made my first $10.00 and I was over the moon and after that as they say it's all history

Great advice for those of us who are in this for the long term. It takes time and effort. I love that your social media posting is all about being genuine and wanting to help others. Thanks for the refreshing view.
