Be patience my friend, if you rush things up, it may end up hurting your site. How much this link pyramid of yours will affect your main site also depend on the competitions, if your competitors also doing the same strategy then you have a battle in your hand.

So far no change in the serps
300 unique domains.
Do they all have 300 unique IPs? If they are all in your shared hosting or on the same IP, it won't have any effect.

It depends on a ton of factors, typically though this sounds like a good strategy.
Although there could be deeper issues such as the quality of those 300 sites, is it spun garbage content and all new domains?
Are they all on the same IP? What type of PageRank and backlinks do those 300 sites have?
Those questions will greatly determine whether or not this will help your rankings.
