this looks cool I've had a lot of ideas about doing stuff with mobile thanks for this
Just to let you guys know, this stuff is very popular in Eastern Europe, Russia in general. Hackers/scammers/blackhatters have milked the shit out of this, and there are serious fraud investigations and a lot of these companies are very careful and thorough before paying.
I have been testing out fortumo and I do not reccomend it at all. They do not seem to pick up any messages that get sent to my short codes.
I just posted a quick ad and got 24 leads, 17 of these said they have sent the text but not recieved a single reply. According to my stats my shortcode has not recieved a single message.
Just thought Id give warning to everyone that their service is utter bollocks.

Do the sender live in a country supported by fortumo ?
Is their cell provider supported ?

so how are you meant to get traffic to the sms, if not by 'making fake competitions' and such?
and if you make real competitions, how do you award the winner, do you get to see everyones mobile number who has sms'd into the competition?

They are claiming that the service contains violations of the regulations regarding the SMS-service provision (also outlined in the Fortumo Terms of Service: http://fortumo.com/main/eula) in a way that is fraudulent to the users.
The operators are likely to conduct an investigation and have asked us for additional information (IP-addess, contact data), which we are obliged to provide.
Anyone know what the deal is with this?

i dk where r u from, but you can't have fortumo(in croatia) for running competitions/donations/auctions so check terms just to make sure you wont get banned

Nice! Now brainstorming (and close to Jr. VP status....yes, I do plan on donating. I love this forum and am more than happy to support it). I was thinking of using this for offline methods as well. Like flyers, etc. "enter code xxx to get 20% off next purchase at Walmart" or something like that.

Their website says that Fortumo is available in 39 countries, including the United States. Seems like Fortumo's twitter was right and United States has been added.
EDIT: I also just noticed a quote on the front page of Fortumo from someone who supposedly works at MTV saying they like to use it for competitions so it seems like Fortumo also ALLOWS competitions. I feel like this is going to become super saturated very soon, better start quick!
