So my Toshiba satellite just died on me. The screen went black when itwas runnin and when i try to restart it it powers up but stays black. I took it to a repair shop to test the power with a new cable and battery and that didnt work. We tried an external monitor and that didnt work. Any other ideas? Also I like toshibas but the one other person i know that has a tohiba the same black screen happened to them. So if i have to get a new one what brands you guys like best that hold up good? and if you have any tips on the black screen i would appreciate it.

I recommend Dell.
Mainly it's not the hardware that is shitty, but Windows himself.

Anyway, I think your laptop is not dead !
The screen is black but the hard disk can be safe, with all your datas.
Otherwise, it can be the reverse, I mean just the hard disk dead.

You should make an hardware checking by a pro (in a shop).

My condolences to your laptop.

Just buy another Toshiba laptop if you really like the brand. Also check cnet dot com and amaz0n for reviews.

Stay away from crappy trademarks.

Like kokoloko75 said , get Dell , i have dell for 5 or 6 years and still works like a charm , never had any blue screens and i have never instaled new windows, this laptop never overheated for these years, if you get acer or asus then pc will overheat in first year. and when it is hot it will turn off without any warnings :)

Best PC would be something from Apple

Apple Mac Book. You will never have any problems with macbook, only thing is that you will have to get used to it. thats all :)

That's not true. I have an Acer for 3 years now and it works just like when I bought it, never got a single black or blue screen on it. I would buy an Acer again if I need an upgrade.

ANY laptop is going to heat if you use it on your lap or on the bed and obstruct the cooler air input, think about it. Also, you help it get hotter by passing your corporal heat to the laptop chassis. A thing to note is that ANY worth BIOS nowadays will shutdown your laptop if the processor is over heating (plain sense) and that's actually a GOOD thing (or you'd rather let it fry? lol).

BTW, you can install Windows on the new Apple Macbooks without a problem, no need to use virtual machines anymore.

Dell XPS is amazing and is what I have. Get it with a 1080P screen and you'll be in heaven.

I had the exact same thing happen to an old HP DV6000. Come to find out, it was a faulty cooling system and my motherboard ended up getting fried. I still have that laptop and it still powers on with a black screen. :-/

I'm pretty sure your motherboard is fucked up. I don't know what model is your Toshiba, but some of them have major cooling problems.

For what it's worth I feel your pain, and every toshiba laptop I've ever owned has died a horrible and premature death. In my opinion they're the cheapest built laptop in the market.

I think your laptop got over heated and just went down because of it. Usually the materials being used for laptops became crispy(lol) when over heated for several times. Maybe that is the main cause of it. I myself didn't use my laptop on bed or above the pillow. I will recommend you to buy MacBook Air. I really like the sexiness of it's style and the specs were amazing. Plus you are virus free. It will automatically reboot when virus comes in. but your files were saved.

As far as recommendations, this is the laptop I just bought the other day. They've been sold out online for a while, but I'd call your local Staples. I swore I'd never own another HP, but after finding out they fixed their cooling issues and implemented measures for future problems, I ended up eating my words. $650 laptop for $400 after it's all said and done. Not gonna lie though, the Beats audio is what sold me. Laptop speakers usually suck. Here's the deal so you can print the info if you need it.

I feel your pain. I really do. My ThinkPad just went dark on me late last year. I did Google search at the public library not really thinking I would find something., but I did. It's a crazy trick for ThinkPads, according to the comments, it works for other brands too. It couldn't hurt.

Try swapping out the memory otherwise it's probably the motherboard.

You can also sell parts of your broken laptop on ebay or craigslist and use it to buy your new laptop.

Sorry to hear about your loss. The death of a laptop can be a sad and horrible thing. It can cause depression and plenty of grief.

I, myself, has had many laptops die on my throughout the years. And each one I took hard. And it was hard for me to move on and begin looking for another laptop. Something in me just felt like I was doing something wrong.

R.I.P to all the laptops that we have lost in this war against broke pockets

Thanks for the tips guys. It is damn depressing not having my laptop working. I tried that power trick also and that didnt work. I doubt it got fried cuz i had it on a cooling pad but i ran a lot of shit so its possible. I dont think im getting another toshiba too many bad stories i keep hearing about. Ill check out some of those deals you guys said.

Could be the video card has fried if everything else seems to work apart from any display output.

Check to see if it all sounds normal, are all fans spinning? Check the hdd activity lights etc.

Sorry to hear about your laptop I've had 3 laptops in the past 6-7 years I just generally think there not meant to last that long and they weren't exactly that cheap either.

I do have to agree Toshiba laptops are poorly made, I had an Acer that lasted the longest, but i have never had a Dell as people are recommending.

You could try taking the ram out and putting it back in and the same with the hard drive, i remember someone telling me that and it actually worked, don't know why something about a fresh boot. Only risk there is you might shock your laptop and fry it.

try removing ram, and swapping over slots, or try 1 ram stick.

that dont work check, cpu, is it cooling?

its theres a light blinking but no boots, its nicely the cpu is toast
