My Keyword research method process? Need feedback

Hey guys,

Being very new at this, I thought I'd ask for some feedback on the way I look for potential keywords, please let me now if this method has more holes in it than swiss cheese

This method is for finding related keywords to then go and write articles, to eventually drive traffic to the one landing page.

1. Fire up Google keyword external tool, select AU market and punch in root keyword
2. Look for keywords that have more than 2000 avg volume searches and Adwords advertiser competition less than 85%
3. Go throught the list avoiding keywords that have Advertiser 100% as I figure these are too hard to compete with, and keywords with less than 200 searches (depending on niche)

That's basically all I do.

Is there a preferred formula for choosing the cut off for max seaches and min searches per month and advertiser saturation (in order to 1: compete and 2: get traffic).

Could you guys please point out where I'm leaving money on the table and offer better strategies? Does my method need to be scrapped? Like I said, I'm only new at this game so any advice is very much appreciated.

I see you are using the keywords to write articles!? Well, the Adwords advertiser competition refers to how fierce is the competition on bidding for that keyword to appear as a result in searches, so I don't think it would affect you in any way when writing articles. IF you write articles for your own website, and monetise with Adsense, then those keywords with the highest competition will bring you more value to the clicks you're getting.

Hey marioland, thanks for the reply, sure, but do you think it would be an indication of how hard it is to rank for that certain keyword (if the advertiser competition is fierce)?

Well, of course, if it's a broad keyword, but other than that I don't think so.

Keep in mind that the Google Keyword tool often doesn't display correct data. It can just give you a general idea of keyword popularity.
