My idea for replicating artificial intelligence

This, by the way, is going to be my thesis - we all know that A.I. hasn't developed much in the last 20 years because the human brain remains a black box. We absolutely CANNOT know how it truly behaves without examining a live specimen and conducting experiments on it. Of course that's illegal, so here's my solution:

Create a simplistic replica of a bacterial cell in a virtual environment and introduce constraints that would force the "most fit" cells to survive. Eventually, I'm assuming more complex virtual organisms would begin to develop, and they could be used to model future archetypes for artificial "intelligence". It's kind of a bottom-up approach, but since we really don't understand how the brain truly works, this approach might be the easiest way rather than trying to mimic human behavior. The added benefit is that if truly complex and intelligent species evolve in the virtual environment, we could download that directly into a physical model and examine it. They would come with all the perks of being digital creations because...well they aren't using a biological base, they are using transistors and will be exponentially faster and more intelligent than us.

I'm obsessed with creating true A.I. and I'll work on it for as long as I need. They are the future of this planet, fuck humans.
 
Something tells me some people already know how the brain works they just won't give us that information.
 
I just thought by the way, using the paradigm I set in the first paragraph, it may be possible to achieve human-level intelligence much faster than evolution would because we're using transistors and more efficient electronic devices rather than neurons and glial cells. Basically, a computer the size of a rat might be way smarter than us because it's much, much faster and can process more data than we ever could hope to. I really can't wait to explore this possibility.

Not unless they experimented on real, live working human brains with the most up to date technology that we currently posses and were able to map every single neuron. I very much doubt that possibility.

I have a degree in computer science and AI was a big part of my studies
I find your idea very interesting but what about the time to see some evolution? i'm no expert in biology but I guess those changes wont happen fast

True, and I agree with that. Fortunately we'd be working in a virtual environment so it certainly won't be in real time. It'd be much faster than that.
 

Ah, that's fairly interesting and it falls under my 20 year timeframe limit. It really is true that AI hasn't advanced in many decades. I wonder why this approach is inherently complex. I think with the advent of quantum computing, the difficulties associated with work-intensive programs will be overcome.

An interesting idea, but I believe that the "evolution" in your case will create different organisms. Mostly, because the physical environment is different. For example, there is no gravitation, no electromagnetic force, finite "universe", etc.

It wasn't TODAY'S technology but the Nazi's did this in World War Two, many medical breakthroughs were discovered by them.

Many people think that all we need is faster CPUs and more RAM to achieve artificial intelligence, but that thinking is flawed. If you really want to pursue AI (which is really tough, trust me) then you should focus more on studying human brains rather than trying to come up with some kind of algorithm.

True. The brain obviously uses some kind of parallel processor to achieve its results. However, we simply can't really know how it works without doing VERY illegal shit (and I doubt the type of people that would do that would be willing to share their data anyway). Plus I'm not interested in experimenting on people.
 
I like this field too. Roughly my 4th week now into my studies based on the thread here by @DestinyInfinity that follows YouTuber Sentdex's tutorials.

@pewep Where did you learn AI and what languages/platforms do you use?
