My host is killing me

I'd recommend hostgator and bluehost. No problem with both of them for years.

is there any good offshore hosting which supports everything ? (wpmu, fopen , ioncube etc)

suggestions appreciated.

Just read their terms of service and they will tell you exactly what their version of "unlimited" means...I cant pinpoint a definite traffic number obviously...but this should give you an idea of your "unlimited" resources...

7b.) INODES
The use of more than 250,000 inodes on any shared account may potentially result in a warning first, and if no action is taken future suspension. Accounts found to be exceeding the 100,000 inode limit will automatically be removed from our backup system to avoid over-usage, however databases will still be backed up. Every file (a webpage, image file, email, etc) on your account uses up 1 inode.

You can imagine how quick inodes can rise - especially if you use up a bunch of your "unlimited" domains.

8.) Bandwidth Usage
You are allocated a monthly bandwidth allowance. This allowance varies depending on the hosting package you purchase. Should your account pass the allocated amount we reserve the right to suspend the account until the start of the next allocation, suspend the account until more bandwidth is purchased at an additional fee, suspend the account until you upgrade to a higher level of package, terminate the account and/or charge you an additional fee for the overages. Unused transfer in one month cannot be carried over to the next month.

Again not exactly unlimited.

The worst part of it (this coming from experience) is that their "warning" may be your sites being taken down until you talk to them. NOT much of a warning IMO

If you don't think these limitations will apply to you - then yeah hostgator is pretty cheap, has up to date software for the most part and has fantastico (which is handy).

If you have a lot of sites OR host clients sites I would suggest going for a more expensive/reliable host.

As for BlueHost - make sure you have something monitoring your uptime - My site on bluehost was down for an absolutely unacceptable amount of times on overseas servers.

The best web hosting in my opinion is HostGator!

I'm really starting to think 1and1 is throttling my bandwidth. I have a VPS with them and at first things were great. Lately, and especially late at night I usually find my sites timing out or loading slow as hell. Has anyone else come across this with them? Also their support is the worst. 24 hours for each canned response they send. I need a decent VPS. Anyone?
