Hi everyone, I have a question. My friend didn't get paid for his work on a project, he worked there for more than half a year, the client took the project and didn't pay.

He's angry, he's a good man, he believed he wouldn't get fucked, but he did.

What would you do? Have you had a similar situation ? What did you do?

That's sad
When collaborating, do they have any legal contracts? And does he have contact information like address, ID...?

how he have worked 6 months without getting paid once?

also if he still have the project simply he will deploy it or publish it for his own and compete with the original owner or sells it for someone else as the original owner can't have any rights to it now

Damn, sorry to hear about that. That's a painful lesson.

Most freelancers always take a small % to get started on the project and get paid another % for every milestone.

Trust in business isn't good it seems.

Honestly, without legal contracts, theres not much you can do besides harrasing the employer.

I always stuff in backdoor access for such cases, i also make a backup of the project when I finish it so that if they fuck me up and somehow delete the backdoor I'd just go and sell the project somewhere as legally it's mine as I've wrote/created it and haven't been paid for it and since there are no contracts they can't really sue you either lol.

Hang up the towel, how do you even work for 6 months without getting paid?

Lesson learned the hard way.

never work for that long without getting paid.

of course everything has. Contracts it is clear, but if someone doesn't want to pay, a contract won't help you, the court takes a long time and you need the money now, not in ten years.

He worked for them for 5 years, they didn't pay him for the last year, but he kept hoping they'd pay, so he did, then they took the amount they owed down by 30 percent, and for the last half year they haven't paid him anything

In general, they lie, they mislead. Paradoxically, my friend does the thinking, and gives companies the know how to get ahead. They owe him a lot of money... I'm very annoyed that they lie to him and mislead him.

Any hackers here ? :)

If they're both from the same country sue the client.

the court takes a long time and you need the money now, not in ten years.
If you're going to worry about the timeline then forget about the money. It's exhausting for both the parties. At least initiate a case, they may settle the matter without going to the court.

poor him! if i were him i would let everyone knows about this fact on social media platforms to let people avoid
