If you read Wasted's thread here, http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...g-data-if-youre-smart-you-can-understand.html everyone who is saying you need tons of money to do this is wrong. I've been doing it since April 3, after reading his post. I didn't even know how to place a cookie so I took the advice of Artizhay and signed up at adroll, they give u the code to place on your site, I guess all sites give you the re-targeting code. Adroll has a free 2 week trial where they give u $30 per week to test their services. They do require a credit card, and they do authorize the credit card (for $0) but I haven't been charged anything yet because I am still in the 2 week trial period.

I get organic SEO traffic in a focused niche, so around 80% of the people visiting my site are looking for very specific info and products. Over the last 2 weeks I have dropped 5,200 unique cookies on my site visitors...so I now have a list of 5200 "targets" that I can re-market my own products & services to...or I can market other products n services in the same niche to them.

Cost so far=$0

I have not set the tracking pixel that measures conversions up because the conversion occurs offsite and frankly I have been too lazy to figure out how to do it.

My click rate on those I have re-targeted is .31%, and that is using only 1 ad I threw together using pixlr. I haven't a/b tested or tried to optimize anything yet.

If I wasn't within the 2 week trial, my spend for all of this would have been $10.75

As for the email optin vs re-target debate, you can do both. During this same time frame that I "tagged" 5200 potential customers, I only got ~20 email optins on the same site. Granted my optin box sucks, but It appears to everyone who visits.

Not sure what type of deposits are required at the other sites but from what I see, you don't need thousands to do this...you just need some traffic, something to sell (your own stuff or affiliate stuff) and a few bucks to get started.

Excellent information, all of it.

Wow - quite a difference. I would imagine (and imagination is all it is) you get a lot better ROI on the 5,200 - just because of the scale difference.

Keep us updated.

yeah, the visitor has to do absolutely nothing, other than visit the site, no opt-in, no confirming your opt-in etc. I haven't given up on e-mail but re-targeting is a no brainer.

adroll is a bless!! I invest around 200 bucks per month and get a few 2-3k conversions ROI.
That is without targeted banners. I will create a new banner set for each product and optimize soon. It is amazing!

subster - what exactly do u mean 2-3k conversion roi? $2-3 thousand dollars in conversions from a $200 spend?

that is correct. from a 200$ investment last month i got 17 conversions with an average order amount of 150EUR. that from an unoptimized campaign, targeted on users that visited the shopping cart and the checkout page without a conversion

and this is all why we now have a section for media buying, because it is where the money is at!

Congrats on getting started, and subster congrats to your campaign as well

good stuff.
how do you get the initial traffic so u can drop the cookie, seo, media buys?
