my first keyword phrase

Hey there black hatters!
I'm new to IM and after 3 days of research, I think I just found my first phrase;

3/4 word phrase (depending on how you express yourself)
12,000 exact searches/m in the USA, 2$ CPC and a large opportunity of related searches;
I think the competition is not very strong: nothing over PR4 in the first 6 results, and nothing with more than 30 backlinks; the only thing I'm worried about is this yt vid that jumped 3 places in the last 2 days, which is now on the 3rd place! the top comments shout "this video is a lie, go away", though

I have bought a related, "umbrella keyword" domain last night, 5 years old, from goDaddy auctions, and I'm waiting for the delivery in my control pannel;
In the meanwhile, I found myself some content, and I currently have in my possession around 600 articles on the "umbrella" keyword phrase, and around 10 on the narrow phrase;

what do you think, guys? does this sound like something that's "doable" by a newbie like me? any PROs and CONs that I should be aware of?

12.000 searches will always be "a tough one" most likely. A tough one, but not an unbeatable one.

Hard first time keyword to choose. My first keyword was 500-1000 searches(Theese are boring and shitty though).

Seems like you have a budget, so this is possible. I would go for blognetworks combined with high pr blog comments, audio, video and documents backlinks.

Most importantly make some research about natural backlink profiles.

about the difficulty of the niche, here are some exact info on the first SERs:
1st: PR1, 30bl, phrase in title and in url (not domain)
2nd: PR3, 23 bl, phrase in title and partial domain name;
3rd: yt vid, negative like-dislike ratio, I suspect it of heavy SEO for this phrase
4thR3, 19bl
5th and 6th: PR0 with 18 and 19 backlinks, respectively;

Sounds like you have your shit sorted out. Just keep reading and taking in knowledge as you work at your methods.
Keep going at it until you accomplish your goal. Remember, hard work pays off!

I started a list of related phrases, and I found that many of the long-tail versions have under 2000 locals/mo, which should be easier, right?

my budget is around 500 bucks; I will personally rewrite the PLR articles that I have, and I plan on backlinking the site(s) myself, as I already own Scrapebox, all of this, just to cut down on some of the expense, seeing as my funds are really limited and I'm just starting out;

as a plan, I was thinking on building a blog the moment my domain is live, and putting a few pages and articles up; a bit of design and a theme, and it should be good to go!
Then I will make a facebook and twitter pages, and link them to my blog, as I think this niche is not quite approached, socially, by my target audience (18-29)
I will try to get some social bookmarks myself, as I want to learn to do it, and then I will play around with scrapebox for a while; if things go well, I'm probably going to buy some fiverr backlinks, but not until I have had the chance to get used to the tools I have to use, all by myself;

on the long run, I was thinking getting some yt traffic and ranking some videos on the matter, but that's only after my initial blog has started getting some organic traffic and started generated at least a few pennies a day

what do you guys think about my plan?

Hahaha, that's a good way to put it man. The point is, you're doing it. Just keep going at it and practice until you get it right (just like laying the pipe)
