My Experience with Launch Jacking - Advice Needed!

So recently I thought I would give Launch Jacking a try, all in all it was unsuccessful however I did learn a lot regarding SEO. So here goes...

PREFACE

Most of the success I have had online has come via Clickbank and Micro Niche sites using low competition niches/keywords so diving into the IM / Make Money Online niche was something I was wary about however this seems like the only niche where you have regular products coming out, I am keen to try launch jacking with physical product releases or Clickbank product launches outside the IM niche however I couldn't really seem to find products being released regularly in these categories - If anyone does this in these categories your advice would be greatly appreciated!

METHOD I USED

So it was the simple Launch Jacking method really. In a nutshell - I went to warrior JV and found a product being released in 2-3 weeks time that fit the criteria I thought would make it a good launch, contacted the vendor for review copy, banners etc, bought a domain name, then built my review site and had a review article written, made the site and article look professional with images blah blah.

I started to rank almost instantly due to having good on page SEO and lack of competition. I then started to build back links mainly through PBN Links, Tumblr's, Social Signals, Web 2.0's, blog comments etc etc. Backlinks plus on page SEO put me on the first page of google dancing from around number 4-8 behind the vendor's sites.

WHERE IT WENT BAD!

I stayed in these positions and was beginning to climb and become more steady in rankings until around a week before the launch date competition spiked with some big review sites coming on the scene, I was pushed out of the 1st page and started to have some pretty wild swings in my position dancing from bottom of the first page the mid second page.

Basically my site steadied out around 8th position for 2 of my main keywords and is steady their now however the buzz of the product launch is gone and sales are not going to happen.

ADVICE NEEDED

1) Anyone that does this can you offer advice on how to rank high even if it just for a few weeks?

2) Does anyone here do this with products outside of the IM niche - So physical products that would sell on Amazon and other sites or with Clickbank products outside the IM niche? And if so where do you find launch calendars for these?

You might also want to give other web 2.0 properties a go. I know those are going to dominate but you might also want to include video ranking as a part of your strategy. Btw how old is this site of yours?

The site is only a couple of months old right now, Im not paying any attention to it now thought because the launch period is over. I bought the domain and ranked it within a few days, my method for launch jacking means I buy the site 2-3 weeks before launch date.

No man you need to dedicated 1 site for this...why you buying domain for the product that is about to launch?

Thats what launch jacking is usually, buying an EMD domain as close as possible to the product name helps you rank.

Do you understand what launch jacking is?

It's just the way that you described OP! When some ''Big Guns'' are starting to push their reviews we just vanish from the top positions. It's a matter of numbers I guess, the more products we promote, the better chances that we have to ''accidently'' discover a fair goldmine...

I do know but I have also seen guys use 1 dedicated domain for the same thing so thought you might also like to do this approach but anyways videos tend to outrank sites so that might be worth a shot.

Yeh I have seen 2 or 3 dedicated sites that do launch jacking via 1 main site as opposed to churn and burn, I thought about doing it but not sure given the competition in the IM niche, plus I quite like the idea of churn and burn I guess.

That's interesting what you say about videos though. I have read a lot of places that videos are easy to outrank with sites.

Yeh good point. I have been looking through trying to analyse what products one dedicated IM review site I have been competing against launch jacks but it is hard to work out. Usually large affiliate prize money from the vendor is a good indication that a product launch will be sucesfull however this guy seems to be quite erratic in which products he reviews, perhaps just going for whatever will give him enough time to rank.

Do you have any experience launch jacking physical products, so for example if a new set of speakers where coming out you would launch jack before the release date and promote through amazon?
