I am trying my best to build a website based on what I learned here. My website was ranking pretty well for about a month, but now something weird happened
The thing is, my main landing page has same keyword as an article post I wrote. Before writing the post, main page was doing fine in SERP.
However, after a while, main page now ranks lower than the post page, which I did not expect at all.

I built my backlinks so that only main page gets all the link juice. And yet, my post is doing better in terms of SERP, while my main page keeps declining.
What should I do in order to get my main page get back to where it belong? Or should I just let it be?

when 2 or more pages target the same content it's keyword cannibalization and google has difficulties knowing which page to rank so they rank the page with the highest authority or with the best content, which in your case would be the non-landing page because it has more content (landing pages usually don't have a lot of content) so it probably addresses the intent of the keyword better (in more detail), so google believe that this page is more relevant to people's searches than the landing page

Things you can do:

- add more content to the landing page and hope that it will outrank the other page based on the authority provided by the backlinks
- remove the keyword you're trying to rank for, from the non-landing page
- delete the non-landing page altogether (while also 301-redirecting its URL to a different page so you can avoid ending up with 404 pages which are bad for SEO)

Ahh, it's called keyword cannibalization huh. Thank you so much for helping me out! I will make necessary changes soon and see if makes difference soon. Thank you again.
