My dog just died

To parvo. he threw up sunday and didn't think much of it, monday i noticed he wasn't eating or drinking, then tuesday he wouldn't eat or drink again, so i scheduled a vet appointment for wednesday. they gave him some medicine and an IV drip to take home and he died in the night. he was about 1 year old.

Now the mission is to protect my other dog from it. She's 10 years old and small. I took her to the vet today to get her vaccinated for it but it won't stop it all. I have to watch her closely for 6 months.

I didn't know anything about this disease until yesterday, and I hear a lot of people lose their dogs to it. So if anyone has an tips for anything that would be great.

Sorry bro. It's always hard to lose a canine friend.. hope all is well, remember the 10 great years he gave you and let him rest.

well the 10 year old is still alive. the 1 year old died last night.
 
Awww that sucks dude. I love the crap out of my dog, I get sad just knowing that he will pass away in my lifetime.
 
Dude ... sorry to hear that ... get that dog stuffed ... my neighbor did and you can't believe how real Trixie looks ... creepy at first but then it begins to look OK

we had our old english sheepdog puppy no more than a week when he contracted parvo, all i can recommend really is be as quick as you can to respond with medical attention if your dog starts looking like its ill - parvo is an extremely viralent and can kill your dog if it doesnt receive immediate medical attention.

Wilbur was one of the lucky ones he survived a full blown parvo attack - cost me over $3500 in vet fees and that was with pet health insurance! so you may want to look at health insurance or having a credit card handy!

thinking about it all i can recommend to help prevent it is make sure your other dogs bedding, toys, feeding bowls, water anything that could have salivia or dog poop, on it from the dog that died destroy it! bleach wont kill the virus, if the dog that died pooped in the garden, or wherever keep your other dog away from it is highly contagious!

puppies even with a parvo vaccine are high risk victims of parvo - however your other dogs immune system and if its been fully vaccinated should be good if you take note of what i mentioned earlier!

As for parvo it can certainly be deadly and is spread easily, pretty nasty. Be sure to due a good cleaning to help make sure your other dog doesn't pick it up.

It is hard losing a dog, especially a puppy. My last dog was way to young to die.
 
Sorry to hear about your dog dude. I had two dogs die of Parvo when I was a kid, broke my 8 y/o heart.

I have two dogs they are 7 years old. One just turned 7 this week.

Sorry about your dog...

I remember when my dog got out the fence and was ran over... I was 10 years old...I felt guilt, but wasn't sad... Doubt I'd ever own another pet (dirty)...
 
My dog that I've had for 14 years (pretty much since I can remember, i got her when i was a kid) died about 2 months ago..
Really sorry, hope the other one is okay.
 
Apologies on the death of your dog. My dog is one of my best friends. She is amazing. Best of luck to you in your loss.

lost ours through cancer and he was actually put to sleep in the back of our car,
something I never want to have to see again.

we had to get another soon after, but he had a couple of murmors (common in boxers)
I came home from work, missus was in tears, he had collapsed and past over.
we HAD to get another soon after and when she was about 3 months old, the breeder of the second dog phoned to ask how the pup was and was devastated when they heard the news but she Offered a replacement in a future litter.

I dont know any tips for parvo

They didn't keep your dog at the vet and just gave him some medicine and an iv drip then sent him home the same day? if so DON'T EVER TAKE ANY OF YOUR PETS TO THAT VET AGAIN!!

I've had 3 dogs and my grandma had her little dog over the years that caught parvo and the vet kept them there for 2 weeks with iv's in them and giving them meds and keeping an eye on them. Trouble my pit/rockwaller mix was at the vet for 3 weeks before he got better and he was in really bad shape when he went in. I Had to carry his big ass out to the car because he couldn't walk.

We have not had one dog die from parvo
